Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| Hello, I have checked the Baby center's name and SS website for the top 10 names. I am very interested in what all of you think is the very common ("hot") girl names of this year/time. For example, when I was in grammar school the "hot" names in which there were always at least 2-3 in my class were "Jennifer" and "Amy". If I were to guess I would say the most likely used names are: Madison, Emma, Olivia, Sophia. I seem to hear alot of these ones and would like others opinions. Sorry to those of you who are tired of name posts. And I do appreciate your input. |
| The ones you mentioned, plus Ella, Ava, Sydney, Abigail... |
| Is Olivia really that common? I guess I am out of the loop on that one. |

based on trips to the park & friends with kids with the same name: Ellie, Emma, Charlotte, Mackenzie, Anna.
On a somewhat related note, what about boys names? |

OP - what is your intent here?
I am the mother of a girl with a top 10 name. I didn't intend it at the time when we named her (in fact it was close to 100 at the time). I look at her and don't kick myself for having named her that - in fact, I think her name fits her more and more every day. I think it is a beautiful name and would never change it. My own name, Sophie, is obviously on your list. I knew no other Sophies growing up - in fact, due to the 'strangeness' of my name, I was made fun of a lot of the time. i had lots of nicknames, many not so nice nor meant to be nice. So it always amuses me to hear my name being called a lot everywhere I go. However, my mom taught me early on to laugh with them and at them when I was made fun of. I love my name, and until the last 10 years, was proud of it being unusual. Anyway, it means Wisdom - not such a bad thing to associate your name with. Many of my friends are Jennifer, Amy, Lisa, Heather, Michelle - the top popular names of my generation. If you ask any of them, they found a kinship with knowing others with the same name - a positive. |

OP--my intent is informational gathering and I do indeed have a popular name myself. And have always loved it.

| Sweeteigh tops them all. |

| It's funny - I know Madison is one of the most popular names and has been for years, but the only Madison I know is a 40 year old male! He was the big brother of one of my friends growing up. |

| Oops, those other 10's at the bottom (Grace and Sofia) go with the top DC names--there was a three-way tie between Elizabeth, Grace, and Sofia. |
| I know 4-5 little girls named Maya and another 5 named Lucy. |
| Grace and Kate are definitely popular in our crowd (1-4 years old). |
| I have a popular name from the 70s and had a least a few classmates with the same name K-law school. I think it's different now because parents don't seem as limited nowadays as they were back in the 70s in terms of picking names. Parents back then didn't name their kids Piper, Brooklyn, Leo, etc. So even if you name your kid a top 10 name, there's a good chance they won't end up with classmates with the same name (but they may end up with a classmate named Addison or Apple). FWIW, my kids both have very popular (top 10) names --- yet they haven't had a classmate with the same name yet --- and if/when they do, it really won't be a big deal. |
There were three Olivias in my DD's class last year. |
