Recommended Test Prep for SCAT?

Anonymous
Can someone recommend a test prep option (books or tutor) for the SCAT? (St. Anselm's admissions) I expect to have DS take a practice test before sitting for the admissions test, but some test prep might be helpful. (Just strategies, etc.)
We're in close in PG County.

Thanks.

I don't think that exists.

We dd SCAT for JHU CTY. I didn't know schools used it. We were for early elementary.

There is a test prep book you can buy - pricey but worth it for the questions. Google will help you find it.

There are also a few places that you can subscribe and do testing online. (Testing Mom or some such name???)

The test prep location will also let your kid come in and do a mock test. This will help them be comfortable with the environment and not be freaked out by someplace new.

What we found was that it wasn't the material itself - though we had a mentor/tudor review some of the math that he hadn't done yet in school. More time was spent "teaching the test" - aka format of questions. Our kid hadn't done analogies and hadn't done multiple choice for math (and the SCAT format is crazy on that!). So we had him do practice questions and review them.

Sorry that I can't help more - but you are going to have to do on your own!

You can book to take the test and any testing place - they are listed on the CTY online website.

Dc took the scat in 3rd and 7th grade. We used testing mom and just googled analogies for 2 or 3 grades higher.

I looked at the math samples that CTY provides. I then created my own math practice tests for my kids. I made the problems consistent with the difficulty level of the practice tests, then included some tougher ones. The practice tests worked, both my kids are CTYers.

My DD did SCAT for CTY and she did a few practice tests from Testing Mom website and an analogy book from Barnes and Noble that was 2grades beyond her current grade level. Both were extremely helpful.
