How DO we get the calendar changed?

The issue the first year was teachers taking those days off instead of attending the purported necessary training.

Respectfully who cares? They aren’t doing anything those days. They still have to have lunch and recess which together with transition time, takes up close to an hour. Of a day that is already basically a half day anyway.

Beacuse attendance is now a part of the certification metrics and they want kids in the building for those half days. If you place them on a Monday or a Friday, families take long weekends. If you place them on a Wednesdays parents gripe but send their kids to school.

Then they need to make it worth it for those kids to be in that building. Building some programming in the three hours after “school” ends that parents see as valuable and the kids will be in the building.

The coverage for childcare for those early release days is done largely by the classroom aides and other school staff and is meant to really only be for families who can't figure out childcare another way. Building a worthwhile program at the end would not be equitable for those families whose kids go to other afterschool programs (like mine) or parents who pick their kids up early on those days like they're supposed to if they can.

They do for K-2 at my kids’ school.

I don't understand what is happening anymore. My HS kids are only going in to school for tests and coming home. Why are we in school now and not all Falll?

They used to have Monday early release days weekly and attendance was fine.

Then they are not that concerned about attendance. Parents with the resources to get their kids early are going to choose whether the hassle of the morning routine is worth two hours of “school”. Make it worth it, and kids will stay. If it’s not worth it, I’m not interested in complaints about attendance.
