Why is there so much opposition to ending birthright citizenship?

Not unexpected.

Trump wants this to go to the Supreme Court.

But conservative judges supposedly like to interpret the Constitution as it is written.

Well, only when they like what's written. See: Heller

Yup, they are going there.

They didn't have citizenship until an act of Congress in1924.

That's all it took, the government changing an interpretation

The government didn’t change any interpretation. Congress can add citizenship categories as it wants to. It cannot undo the 14th amendment requirement though.

For starters, Spain, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Greece, Australia, Japan, Singapore, China, Colombia, nor the Czech Republic and any of the many other countries liberals say they're going to move to do not have birth right citizenship. What Trump is proposing isn't extreme at all, so why is there resistance to enacting common sense reform? It's also funny too, because as these elections showed, many coming over the border who eventually establish themselves aren't even Democratic voters either, so the Dems may actually seriously want to rethink they're immigration and citizenship policies before they blindly stand up for making it extremely easy for letting in millions of super catholic people who are now showing to be socially conservative and supporters of traditional family values. There was a time when the 14th amendment served a purpose, but it is the year 2024. Birthright citizenship is now much more of a security liability than anything. Why shouldn't we end it when most of the countries liberals espouse and hold up as role models don't even have it?

I suggest that the real motive here is to reduce the percentage of residents that are not "white". In a prior century, the focus would be on Irish and Italian immigrants. The fact is that most of these non-"white" residents are far more American that the earlier Irish and Italian immigrants.

How, pray tell, do you figure that?

The Irish and Italians did not land here wearing Michael Jordan t-shirts. Nor necessarily, in the case of Italians, speaking English. American TV shows, movies, music, and internet obviously have spread American culture globally.

I’d agree with that if we could also admit that the right to bear arms has way outlived its usefulness and has caused more harm than good. Gun lovers always point to the constitution as a reason that we cannot ban guns. But now it’s that simple to change the constitution when they don’t like immigrants coming in?

Seriously. I would love to hear the thought process on this - why would they think Trump would leave the naturalization process alone?

Probably because it outraged them hearing stories like this one

It makes sense that those not born from at least one American citizen be required to go through the green card and naturalization process.

Exactly! But that's just "common sense". I honestly wish that instead of coining the term golden age he'd simply said "common sense" age..

You have an article on a Zika baby from 2016 on quick recall? Sounds like you are the naturalized citizen. Also sounds like you could use some therapy for your issues.

I don't see how that article would make anyone think that the Trump administration wouldn't interfere with the naturalization process.
