Inflation is off the chain

Anonymous
Prices have gone up across the board. Weekly grocery expenditures have gone up quite a bit for the same general basket of goods. Not enormously so but still obviously so. Restaurants are getting more and more expensive, takeaway is also getting more expensive. We're looking at new or recently used cars and they're very expensive. My sister is doing a kitchen remodel and her cabinets just arrived last week, and she commented that she was lucky because the cabinet company has also just raised their prices for the third time this year, despite lumber prices technically falling. I don't think I've witnessed such a big increase in such a short time in my life. My parents say it's still not as bad as the inflationary pressures of the 1970s but they openly acknowledge the rising prices.

They probably had it delivered.

DP. No?

Chipotle prices have gone up. I just tested in the app - got two regular burrito bowls with steak ($9.85) and add guac + a drink is $31. A side of chips to share would easily make that $35.

Your problem is the guac and drink. Markup on drinks is astronomical! Avocados are crazzzyyyy bad for the environment, expensive to grow and cost a huge amount in transport.

I can get one steak quesadilla and 2 chicken quesadillas with chips for $31- two with rice and beans as a side so that my toddler has rice and beans for dinner because he cant eat dairy and one with sour cream and pico. Thats 4 people for $31.
If I get 3 chicken bowls plus chips its only 27.72. I get extra rice and black beans in containers on the side for all 3 bowls. Ill add a bag of green beans and some leftover chips from our pantry.

Delivery takes the same meal (quesadillas) up to 40.83 due to increased price on the items AND a service fee plus tip would be 48.00.

You pay for convenience.

Inflation is all around us in ways that are captured by the inflation statistics and not - portions have gotten smaller, both in restaurants and grocery stores. Housing prices have soared. The government poured trillions of dollars into the economy in a very short period of time and there are fewer goods because of the supply chain shortages. Unfortunately, prices are sticky upwards so this is unfortunately the new normal.

Otherwise we'd be buying houses at the same price they were in the 60's (hey, I'd take a house at those prices). You will survive this like you have thus far, just you haven't really noticed until now.

+1 Globalisation ended in 2010. It's just been one big zero sum game since then. Now it's getting smaller. Don't worry the pie will start growing again. šŸ„®

I've got two mortgages, at 2.75%, for a total of $700,000. I've got most of my investments in stocks.

For me, inflation is not all bad.

I love how the people who yell and scream about ā€œthe bordersā€ will carry on about food prices.

Did the undocumented workers go anywhere? They are mostly still here and new ones are coming

How's it feel to be a weak, pencil necked moron? It's so obvious you've never trained seriously in your life. No one can gain mass on purpose eating rabbit food consisting of alfalfa sprout bread and microgreens.

It's call dirty bulking and cutting, moron.

Try lifting some weights once in your life.

+100

Grocery prices are crazy. We used to spend $80-100 for about 1.5 weeks' worth of groceries for 2 from Lotte. Just got back lack night on our typical run and spent $130. Nothing crazy in our basket either, just the typical quantity of meat and produce we always buy. Lumber prices are crazy - we just looked into trying to repair our wooden fence. No way is it worth it now. Copper is expensive, electrical boxes are expensive, even things like dry wall have gone up....all of my friends who do commercial engineering absolutely say without question the price of every single material has gone wayyyyy up. Sugar and wheat are about to explode in costs too because of bad crops. Oil is up. This is the worst bout of inflation the country has seen in over 30+ years....the macro numbers aren't lying. If we counted inflation using the same metrics as we used in '70s, inflation would be raging over double digits right now.

Stop eating at fast casual chains and cook, if you can.

Day old chicken is so gamey unless it is grilled and served cold, my gag reflex takes over.

I agree.
