I am probably a bit offtopic here, but what I want to say is: good thing that we even have a choice - to educate ourselves and decline procedures we don't think necessary. I have grown up in another country and "informed consent" is still a no-go in many hospitals there. Sometimes it is not even about consent, it is about informing -women are given "something" and they don't have a clue what it is! My SIL was given oxytocin when she came to the hospital - clearly because the doctor wanted to go home - and was REFUSED epidural because "it may hurt the mom and the baby" - with all my distrust to epidural, what kind of attitude is that???
