Texas Christian University

My oldest applied there and visited. We liked the school a lot. It is a only 10-12k yet plays major sports. There seems to be a lot of school spirit and the surrounding area is nice. They seem to be able to offer just about every major you could want despite not being a state public flagship.

My oldest got into SMU and TCU. No merit/aid from SMU but was offered a fair amount of merit at TCU.

Our oldest decided to go in another direction (play sports at a d3 school) but TCU would have been his second choice.

It is where the rich, popular, B+ students from my Fort Worth high school went. Greek life and football. Good reputation and alumni network in DFW. The smart student from the DC area should do very well there academically and have a lot of fun if they can tolerate the whole Texas vibe.

Why not go to Sewanee instead?

Seems to be less popular than SMU which is more competitive and draws more of a crowd from NYC and DC area

You are kidding right

Given Texas bounty hunters for women really you are sending your kid to Texas ?

Wow

There is no way any of my kids would have considered a school in Texas, especially now. Taliban Texas will never get another dime from us.

Do you consider Ireland to also be “Taliban?” I guess your kid won’t be allowed to apply to Trinity either then lol

Because Sewanee is an entirely different sort of school - small, D3 sports and more or less in the middle of nowhere. Don't get me wrong, Sewanee is a great school, but it is a very different experience compared to TCU.

NP. It’s not political. It’s basic human rights. No sane person is going to send their daughter to college in a state like Texas. It’s just gross and unsafe.

Ireland is barely Catholic at this point, and pretty dang left on most issues. You need to update your knowledge base. I mean, an openly gay child of immigrants has led the country and still holds a significant rolefor Pete's sake.

Like many schools, TCU is overenrolled for class of 2026, as it was for class of 2025.

My kid just finished freshman year, had a great time and can't wait to get back in August.

Very Greek and very preppy. My older son graduated from there and loved it but he was a big frat guy. All his friends except one are non-Texans. Lots of Midwest and east coast kids.

I would never have let him go there in this particular political climate however. Never. I wouldn’t give Texas the money we spent visiting him, his apartment, etc.

Why not just go to Pepperdine? Sounds similar but with better weather and beautiful beach access

Taliban Texas - I love it!

My rough understanding is that Pepperdine is more conservative-Christian, less Greek vibe. TCU is less religious than Pepperdine, substantially larger, and with D1 sports.
