Also, were any of the school-based teachers or admin or counselors who are being forced to sit through 3 days of this training consulted? I'm a school counselor in another district and I'd be PISSED if this was how my employer wanted me to spend 3 full days of my time. It's not SEL and if the whole point is to make everyone a leader and give everyone a voice, how about asking the students and teachers and counselors what they think of this program. I'd be less cynical if they didn't call it a SEL curriculum, because that it is not.

I also want to know if this curriculum has shown proven results.

Has this curriculum been implemented in other school districts with excellent results? Or is MCPS just throwing money at something that will have little beneficial effect for its students?

Here is the CASEL program guide page, with a section on evidence of effectiveness: https://pg.casel.org/leader-in-me/

Can someone explain what a quasi-experimental study is? Is it a fake study?

LOL! A quasi-experimental study from an unpublished manuscript. Sounds legit. Nice job MCPS.

It'll fit perfectly right along side their non-peer reviewed anti-racism training.

Well this is a relief. This year, MCPS used SEL as code for introducing CRT. Leader In Me doesn't appear to have any of that.

All of these trainings are just formalized approaches to stop focusing on individual students behavior and consequences and instead focusing teachers on wrap around and emotional support services. Consequences never come up any more in the discussions or trainings. It is a huge mistake in my opinion. Students who are Oppositional for a wide variety of reasons never have a chance for real structure and consequences.

Oh man. You're one of those dupes that fell for the "scary CRT is taking over our schools!" crap? You're being manipulated, friend. People are trying to stir white people up into a racial frenzy for political gain... take a deep breath, look closely at the world around you and what's really going on, and don't let them do it.

No. It's comparing interventions but without random assignment, i.e., you can't assign causality to the intervention, regardless of outcome.

They only found between-group differences in *one* of the outcomes studied, too, which is not great.

Seriously, MCPS, there have got to be SEL curricula out there WITH demonstrated effectiveness. Find one of those, FFS.

I look at things directly from MCPS and its staff. Several schools are teaching Kendi who lobbies for discrimination against whites. An MCPS central office employee defined whiteness as a system of oppression at an MCPS conference last year. A teacher at my friend's ES has said he refuses to teach books written by white men. A certain ES in Bethesda is teaching kids that they are either oppressors of the oppressed. These are all the result of CRT.

How are those the result of CRT?

Know how I know you don't have a clue what CRT actually is? The ignorance around CRT is what should be appalling to people.

Could you please provide a definition of critical race theory? Where the term comes from, who invented the term, what phenomena does it try to explain, etc. That would be helpful. Thanks.

It's an umbrella term for things conservatives don't like.

Sounds legit to me.

Why don't you explain what CRT is and then I'll explain the link between it and what I said about the things happening in MCPS.

For the record, do you like the things I listed or not?
