Not a cause for firing. However, it needs to reported, addressed by a supervisor, etc.

How do you prevent retaliation against the student?

You can’t.

There was presumably a whole class listening. She can't possibly know which student reported it.
You could also report it anonymously.

That does not sound like what OP said. She said that the class ended. How many students stick around in zoom after a class ends.

Cool story, but what does being dressed have to do with anything?

Referencing the other recent caught on camera event at a mcps me...

It was county council, you dolt.

Watch yourself, read about the recent incident at Shady Grove Middle School and then feel stupid.

Op here.

The class had not ended. The class was in session, and kids were supposed to be working independently.

That’s my beef with the teachers: they were on the clock, both presumably “teaching,” both had an audience of students, yet felt compelled to hop on their cell phones to gossip.

And I have a real beef with you, OP - that you are posting here repeatedly in the off chance that said teachers will read your post- yet you refuse to report this situation to anyone who could actually do something about it, in particular reach out to the child who was bullied.

Maybe the teachers and the moms should clean up their acts? And we wonder why kids are messed up...

How do you know the person who was called was teaching at the time and not on a planning period or even taking leave? Did your child also recognize the other teacher’s voice or did the teacher say “Hello, Mrs. Green.”

Why are you defending this person? It’s weird

Because OP is a troll. If this happened as she described, we’d see many other posters saying their kids saw it, too and someone would report it.

The kids already took care of it, OP. They probably sent a text to the student being trashed by teacher. Everyone knows now. Teachers are petty and gossip more than anyone realizes.

Many other posters have a child in the same middle school and the same class as OP’s child? Highly unlikely. I’m a teacher and have occasions where I need to be on my phone as well during class. I often have two, sometimes three other adults with me during class. Most of the time the other teachers are in a breakout room with a small group. Most of the time we text to communicate. However, there have been a few times where one of us needed to actually speak to another and a call is needed (for example, we may be administering an assessment and there’s a technology problem). Anyway, it happens sometimes. I always mute myself though!

You really think that "many" parents of kids in a randomly chosen MCPS class are closely monitoring DCUM? Seems like if that were true Jeff would be off enjoying the sun on his private island.

Not closely monitoring, but we’ve had a lot of posts about other big incidents before.

Every MCPS class is recorded. Send the recording to the principal.

But, I’m not really sure I believe OP. Why would a teacher call during class? Doesn’t everyone use texts? But if it’s true, get your proof and definitely report it.

this story sounds suspect...i feel the OP is just trying to stir up unnecessary trouble. why would a teacher pick up the phone to make a call while on camera? even if the assumption is she thought she was on mute, why would she leave her camera on for students to see her doing that during class? and OP stated they saw her shocked face, so we know her camera wasnt off. any teacher would text in this situation. any person for that matter. who actually calls anyone anymore in the first place? let alone DURING class? yeah, im not buying it.

Well, it’s true. It happened. And this teacher has regularly made calls during class this year. She’s older, so perhaps she’s not a fan of text? She has taken calls with her mother...who is obviously older than she is and perhaps doesn’t text.

It’s all true.

The teacher continued her call after muting the audio, but she was still on camera.

She did not apologize once she came back on to finish class. Instead, she tried to spin.

The kid in question saw/heard all of it. Presumably that kid will tell his parents and they will contact the school.
