APS: Splitting hybrid and virtual classes Jan 15th

I just want my kid to stay with their teacher for as long as possible. And with no set return date and cases sky high and rising, are they really going to be sending kids back any time soon?

And why would only one school do this? It seems disruptive and premature.

Isn't necessarily just your school. Our principal is being very cagey, warning people it's coming but no details on when it will be announced and then when it will go into effect.

I suspect that all schools and principals will act as one. I think they just haven't told us at other schools yet. We've heard that something is going to happen soon. Your principal may have just shared the news first. I would feel free to ask your principal about it.

School administrators are probably in the process of shuffling staff around and bracing themselves for the sh!tstorm coming their way, especially when they announce that older elementary kids will really be getting the short end of the stick.

You are lucky that classes are being split. Concurrent is the worst model possible. Well, trying to force full occupancy in person would be the worst, but it is the second worst.

Agreed - so say everyone in APS who wants it gets it by say Feb 15. Second shot 3-4 weeks later. It sounds like about 3 weeks after for full effectiveness. So it sounds like right after spring break would be ideal. This is for ES where my kids are.

Now separately, should Juniors and Seniors get vaccinated with Pfitzer to let them finish HS in person?

Oh, don’t worry, I also have a child that will be concurrent.

Is your child in the interlude program? Since other Campbell teachers/parents apparently didn't get this email, I wonder if it's limited to interlude for now, with the idea being that those students may need more time to adjust to new class assigments.

No, they are in first grade. The email went to Campbell first grade families.

The Campbell teachers listed in that email are not interlude teachers. They listed the 3 general first grade teachers. Interlude at Campbell is a relatively small program.

I don’t think you are the only school doing this- just the only one that the principal has communicated with- I think more will be coming out this week across the county. Then by Friday Duran might have rolled it all back, who knows!

Yes, that’s one of my hesitations here. I had to tell my child this morning in case his teacher brings it up (or another student) and there were a lot of tears. And it could all be walked back tomorrow as far as I know. Poor kids.

B/c they are splitting classes, this means there won’t be any concurrent teaching right?

Concurrent for 3rd/5th. The OP has a 1st grader.

This is to OP- there is a very specific reason that Campbell 1st grade is switching early and it has to do with staffing. Across the county, the switches will likely be coming by Jan 25.
