LCPS Principal started a tutoring business - isn't this a huge conflict of interest?

As long as the teachers don't tutor students from their own school, it is not shady at all.

LCPS publishes the list of teachers who are willing to tutor and the subjects they cover. There is no problem with tutoring gigs outside of school.

I was told they can't provide the services on school property and can't tutor a current student. I know admins who were involved in breaking both of those conditions at an LCPS school.

The teachers that I’ve known who’ve done this did it for free or they were paid by the school for teaching in an official before or after school tutoring program.

LCPS parent here and my child was tutored after school in the school with admin knowledge. It was special ed related though.

Not in Virginia, but in Montgomery County Public Schools, the rule is that teachers cannot teach a student in their own school or a feeder school. I think that this is a great rule.

Teachers have always done tutoring. You just can’t tutor a current student. But, that is the number one way teachers make extra money.

Yes, this year there will be higher demand.

Thank you to the teachers who are organizing to make this easier and simpler to find that extra support.
