Not free. Paid for by the blood of Africans since 1500 AD and counting. |
I was just reading more deeply about Arab traders role in the slave trade Perhaps take this up with the Saudis when their oil starts selling again? |
You're for a 100% estate tax? No inheritances, no wealth transfer whatsoever? Because getting money you didn't earn just validates wallowing in an entitlement mentality. |
It's funny how much the politics have changed. Opening a grocery store in Petworth used to be hugely controversial. Now white liberals make no bones about how they want to push minorities out of the city. |
Don’t forget the role of Africans in enslaving and selling other Africans. How shall they pay reparations? |
I never understand this argument. Reparations people: Modern-day Americans are still benefiting from the results of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. You: Well, Africans were involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade too, so there, ha! |
What about the descendants of the Africans who profited from the enslavement, mistreatment and sale of other Africans? Haven’t they benefitted from the deplorable human trafficking by their ancestors? |
Why are you yelling at me about breaking the lamp? Larla was involved in the lamp-breaking too! (In the bigger picture - please explain how modern-day Africans are benefiting from the results of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.) |
It doesn’t matter. No one who isn’t a huge racist with ulterior motives denies that the US Federal Government wronged enslaved Africans. All this whataboutism nonsense with Arab and African slave traders is a pathetic and transparent attempt to distract from that reality. Don’t engage with them as if they were arguing in good faith. |
So who would get reparations? Descendants of Caribbean Africans? Would mixed-race individuals get half, or less, of a reparations share? Should someone have to prove that they are descendants of slaves? And WTF exactly does this have to do with gentrification in DC? After all, African-Americans moved into neighborhoods that had once been predominantly Irish, Italian or European Jewish immigrant. |
