Man Accused of Raping Girl Was Working ‘Unauthorized’ at Montgomery Schools

Anonymous
Its two different issues..the hypothetical incident that could have happened by having the guy working on a school project..and the actual incident. In terms of the actual incident, his place of work was not relevant. It gave him no extra access to the child. He did not stalk her from the school or follow her home. In terms of the hypothetical, it is a concern that MCPS should be addressing with the contractor.

What MCPS should be addressing is their inability to keep convicted felons from working at a MCPS school. MCPS should along address the lack of supervision of their contractors and failure to impose a penalty to a contractor that knowingly had a convicted felon at a school site.

Do we know what MCPS’s sanction for the contractor will be? Do we know if MCPS is still working with this contractor? I don’t see how people are complaining that MCPS has failed to penalize them, if this just happened and we have no idea if they have penalized them.

File a freedom of information act request. Then you can have your answer as to what reprocussions the contractor had for violating the contract. Or better yet, visit the school and see if the trucks have the contractor's logo. If they are on the job, they weren't penalized enough.

MCPS does not have such a policy. MCPS has a policy that people convicted of felonies are not allowed to work without supervision.

And I don't think that MCPS should have a blanket policy that people convicted of felonies are not allowed to work at MCPS schools. It should depend on the type of felony. Burglary =/= drug convictions =/= DUI =/= assault.

I'm very nervous with my kids and teens around construction projects for this reason--I think it's one of the few jobs where guys with violent criminal histories know they can probably get a job regardless of their background.

This. 110%.

The contractor was working there anyway because MCPS doesn’t check who is working at their schools. MCPS should be checking. MCPS should also put the construction company on a do not hire list.

I don't understand why you think MCPS should be given a pass for a lapse in school security?
Both the contractor and MCPS bare the responsibility for not preventing a convicted felon from working at Wheaton HS. However, MCPS could easily close this security gap if it valued protecting students. Just confirm who is working at schools that have students present. Issue work badges so school security can check who is allowed to be on school grounds and who is not.

Nobody has said that.

Nobody is saying that. What doesn't make sense is why people on here seem to only be pointing the fault at MCPS when there are at least 2 other parties that should bare the bigger responsibility. Also since the occurrence didn't happen on school grounds, I'm not really sure if the the rapist's place of work is relevant here.

Thanks for the spin..obvious MCPS plant
