I think she wouldn't have had a problem if she chose a more expensive dress. It's not working with her body type well and looks off the rack.
Which I mean - I'm not sure the Governor of a state with Flint and Detroit in it should be wearing designer duds either. Men have it so easy. A cheap suit and they're golden. |
She could get a cheap suit too. |
Have you ever tried fitting large boobs into a cheap suit? It never works - trust me. Its the same problem Arnold Schwarzenegger would have with fitting his large biceps into an off the rack suit. |
Completely disagree. The red dress is gorgeous on her, and the jacket is completely fine, if less stunning. She's beautiful, and good for her for not hiding in basic black. |
I like the vred dress. The leather jacket isn't great but isn't terrible. The blue dress wasn't great, looked cheap and ill-fitting. |
The red dress is giving her a pregnancy belly and the jacket literally created a fat roll that may not even exist. I get that you wackos want to defend her but COME ON. |
This. If you want to look your best, you choose clothing that works with your body type in that it makes you look proportional and it makes it appear that fat is deposited in a healthy way. Yes, all bodies are beautiful. Bodies with a lot of abdominal fat are more cancer prone and as mammals we prefer people who give off signals of health vs those who signal potential illness. It's biological. So if you choose outfits that highlight subpar health, people will instinctively recoil. I mean, it's so simple. If you have a large belly, choose waist cinching clothes- et voila, you, will look great IN EXACTLY THE SAME BODY. As for why people judge women more, remember that we also judge Chris Christie for being overweight, Obama for his mom jeans and that one time he wore an unpresidential brown suit, and Trump for his gut and his horrible fake tan. We judge Ted Cruz for his greasy hair and we approve of Cory Booker and Marco Rubio for their relatively better looks. What should we make of this? That we are all sexual people judging others for not just what they bring to the table but, unconsciously, what they bring to the sack. It's part of being human and it's not all sexism or rape culture. We can mold our culture but we can't transend our basic instincts. |
I think this applies to people who carry their weight around their waist. The governor of Michigan doesn't. She clearly has a well defined waist and carries her weight below and above her waist. |
Well. I have never been on the thread and I really don't have a clue who this Governor is. At least I didn't until this thread. I just don't think women in politics need to be looked at the through a fashion lens. We don't do it with men. In spite of people saying oh we comment on Trump's tan and a pair of jeans Obama wore. It is not the same comparison at all and it's certainly not as prevalent and insidious |
Look, I'm not going to hammer the point but to claim she isn't carrying extra weight on her belly is ludicrous. You can say it's beautiful, etc but to claim it isn't true is just mindboggling. |
DP, but WHO CARES?! She doesn't need to dress to hide her belly. Dressing to make it appear that your fat is deposited in a healthy way? You have WAY too much time on your hands. Good grief. |
She may have extra weight in her belly, but she doesn't on her waist. The health thing you are citing goes to people who are apple-shaped with a large waist, which she doesn't have. This simply isn't her body type. |
Are you blind? |
What is that about four or five inches from the bottom of that khaki jacket she is wearing in one of the pictures? Sure looks like a waist to me.
Her body type is curvy, not apple. |
