Criticism of Michigan governor's dress

She looks perfectly fine. I am always surprised at the level of shallow that I see on these boards.

It's a nice dress but doesn't quite fit -- the waist is too high and the sleeves are bunching under her arms.

but it's okay to have a 78 page discussion on how republican women dress. how rude! get over it!

Not the most flattering dress/undergarments combo, but I'm far more interested in the substance of her speech. How annoying this is getting the air time instead.

That’s not ok either.

I think a lot of people don't realize that when women or men pick their outfits out, they cannot plan for the amount of lighting plus flash from cameras they'll be exposed to. So it might have looked fine in person but not on camera.

For whatever reason(s), the dress is not flattering on her. The same can be said for something like 99% of the things our current POTUS wears. For both of them, though, there's nothing to indicate that the clothing is inappropriate. She did not, for example, so up to deliver the address in a bikini.

I don't know the Michigan governor, so I can't speak to her competence. But my own opinion is that she'd look better with the help of a style consultant...but her appearance is not so ridiculous as to be distracting from what she's saying. (FWIW, I would say the same about our POTUS. Difference there is that it's his words that are ridiculous.)

That thread is about FLOTUS and whatever the heck you call Ivanka. FLOTUS has historically been viewed as a bit of a trend setter/style icon going back at least to Jackie. Currently, FLOTUS is a former model which makes that an even more apt expectation.

Also, no one knows who Melania voted for and Ivanka has been a Democrat most of her life.

It's a nice color and overall a nice dress that is appropriate for the event. I see what people are saying about the belly button, etc. but I'm not sure it would have caught my attention if it wasn't being specifically drawn to it.

Exactly. Total double standard.

This, it’s the flash photography, I’m sure you couldn’t see the belly button in person

so it's okay then. that's what you're saying. correct? 78 pages of tearing down people's looks or fashion choices because you disagree with their politics.

Men with bellies wear tight shirts and no one bats an eye.
