Anyone use those fake shampoo/sunscreen bottles to bring alcohol on a cruise?

Have you never brought food into a stadium to avoid paying $6 for a hot dog? Same idea

Why not just eat before you go?

No I have never snuck food into a stadium, are you that broke?? Then don’t go.

Only broke ass alcoholics sneak booze onto a cruise in shampoo bottles. On some lines you can take a limited amount of beer and wine. Why not just do that, and buy the harder stuff on board as needed. I mean, with kids and family, how much are you planning to drink anyway??

You shouldn’t be drinking alot anyway bc it increases your risk for breast cancer.

So many people here licking corporate boot.

Gouging for alcohol is an antitrust violation.

There are a lot more reasons than this.

i went on a norwegian cruise last summer. was drinking martinis and never even got a buzz. don't waste your money on an alcohol package.
and don't buy the water. you don't need it.

God people are so cheap.

I think it makes sense to bring some in, particularly if you don’t drink much. You would have to be a very heavy drinker to get the package. But I guess most people are on cruises to gorge themselves on food and drink heavily given there isn’t much else to do

what's up with having to buy their water or get legionnaire's disease?

I'd do it just to say ef u but that's me. I'm hostile.

I don’t do it but don’t judge people who do. If you are a couple that usually drinks 2-3 drinks per day on vacation, it does not make sense to buy the package (especially because they will then make you buy the soda package for your kids usually). But you could easily pay close to 1,000 for 3 drinks per day for a couple over the course of a week. If you are a screwdriver or jack and coke drinker, this might make some sense.
When I drink it’s more of a spur of monent thing plus I like fancier drinks so wouldn’t be able to mix them easily.

The number of possible alcoholics responding is astounding. In what world is it okay to drink 3-5 drinks per day?? Especially when you will be on a ship in the middle of the ocean with your children? Who will be watching these kids while you drink, and when you get drunk??

+ 1

It’s this kind of thing that makes me never want to go on a cruise, ever!
I bet you also go down to the pool first thing in the morning to save chairs with towels, even thought you don’t plan to actually bring your family to the pool until late afternoon?

That’s actually something you would do. You want to skirt around what is right and what isn’t.

No one needs 3+ alcoholic drinks per day. Ever.

And if you do feel it's something you NEED, especially during a vacation with your family, then you need to re-evaluate your entire life. You should not require alcohol just to function, especially during a vacation.

Alcohol is a toxin.

I’m sure it might work but do you plan on taking shots out of the bottle before leaving your room for dinner or something?? I guess I don’t see the appeal. I enjoy a drink by the pool, or at dinner (or both!! It’s vacation!) but sneaking plain vodka and chasing it with a coke or something before leaving my room just seems…. Not fun.

Unless you’re 19 in which case, go for it, we’ve all been there.

How do you go through life being so judgemental? It doesn't seem like it would be fun or rewarding.

It would take a lot of alcohol to get me to enjoy a cruise.

OP here. Yeah, this is kind of where I"m coming from.

You all are harsh. I've never been on a cruise, hate the idea of it, trying to suck it up for my in-laws, for whom this will be their last vacation. They've moved into assisted living and are in failing health. This will be their last hurrah, and neither my husband nor I are cruise people and not exactly looking forward to that portion of it. But we're happy to spend the time with them.

From my friends who do cruise they say "oh, everyone sneaks it on." Then I saw this on the neighborhood listserv and thought, well, hell, with such a market for these products, people must really sneak stuff on I guess.

I guess not, based on what I'm hearing here. No, we are not alcoholics, which is why there is no hell way we're paying $2,000+ for alcohol. Yes, that's their policy - this is on Norwegian Cruise lines, and since my in-laws made all of the reservations, we would all be required to purchase. But I'm unapologetic that if I have to endure this cruise, I might as well drink.

It's not "necessary" but it's vacation and a la carte it is. (I do see they allow wine, but that's all they allow you take on board. Not even water.)

Thanks for the reality check. You can all go about your day now.

You’re fine. The haters are annoying. Mo need to defend your reasonable choices.
