| Garrison also has a full time coaches for ECE and one devoted to literacy instruction. They are in their first year of school-wide Conscious Discipline and also have a partnership with Kindred, a nonprofit focused on training families and staff to have courageous conversations about race. |
| Just a heads up, all Title 1 schools like Langley receive a half time instructional coach to support ECE teachers and they also receive a half time ECE family specialist who supports attendance and families in the ECE program. I believe Garrison is one of a few schools piloting a learning lab. Non Title 1 schools like Seaton don't receive this support from central office and fund their own staff member who will do the coaching work for ECE, generally this is part-time with other school responsibilities. |

If you want to start getting involved in the Langley family, we will be holding monthly playdates so our new students can meet their new friends, new families can meet with current families, and you can mingle with our school principal and some teachers. This is a great way to prepare your child for the transition to school. We hope to see you there! Dates below:
Saturday, April 6: 10am-12pm Saturday, April 27: 10am-12pm (coincides with our Unity Walk) Saturday, June 1: 10am-12pm Saturday, July 13: 10am-12pm |
Wtf? Seaton is Title 1. |
Sorry for a stupid question, but where are these playdates? The playground in front of the school? |
|
Great question! Yes the play dates will take place on the playground in front of the schoool. I highly recommend coming, it helps to begin the transition to the Langley school family and makes the first day of school so much easier.

| What's the likelihood of getting into Langley OOB? |
For PK3? It's pretty good, not 100%. In the initial lottery only a handful OOB are admitted, but most get an offer before October. The new Mundo Verde offering so many PK3 seats may make it an easier year to get in to area schools. |
Yeah Seaton is still a Title I school. DCPS central office is able to fund ECE instructional coaches and family services specialists through the Head Start grant that DCPS receives. The original goal for family services was to support Head Start eligible families. |
Again, the Learning Lab program for ECE is covered by the Head Start grant that DCPS receives. The school does not fund this through local funds. Other schools that have the ECE Learning Lab include Beers, LaSalle Backus, Powell, Turner, and Savoy. |
I don't know why you're making a big deal of this. Most people don't know or care what's funded federally vs. locally. |
What is this learning lab about? Is it like a coaching program or...something else? |
