I know family members involved in MLM ventures and the success definitely varies. My cousin sells Shaklee and is pretty successful- she gave up her day job because of it. But I think there are several factors that make her an anomaly- she’s super outgoing and attractive, has a lot of wealthy, successful friends, and is higher up the pyramid structure (although not at the top). She also has a background in finance and knows how to play the game- DH and I were once visiting and out for dinner and they picked up the dinner tab, saying they could write off the expense because they had mentioned Shaklee over dinner.
My mom and sister, in contrast, sell Mary Kay and Monat, respectively. It’s their “second” job. My mom has never made a profit, I really dont know why she continues after all these years. My sister is constantly promoting Monat on social media and doing these Facebook videos. I have no idea if she’s turning a profit but she seems to think it’s worth it. She hasn’t been super pushy to me yet thankfully. My mom has given up on me wearing Mary Kay, lol. |
| A friend of a friend sells Rodan and Fields. According to my friend she moved her entire family to Australia last summer when RF opened there to try and increase her downline. (WTH!?!!!??) Now it seems like she’s off the RF and is trying to be a motivational speaker. She published a chapter in a book. Turns out she paid something like 12K to have her chapter published. I just don’t get it. |
| You're using the people closest to you (family and friends) to earn a dollar. It's despicable. |
| I listened to the Dream and loved every second. I worked a social worker in prominently hispanic housing developments and Herbal life has ruined them over and over and over again. It enrages me on such a deep level because these are not bored housewives who can be out 5k and after a big fight with DH have no life consequences. These are people who work their asses off only to lose EVERYTHING. |

Mlm has such a huge connection to fake news (or not reading the news!)
There is a lot of overlap. Skeptical about mainstream stuff. Looking for alternatives. I stay far far away. |
Not OP, but admittedly I like and purchase some Shaklee cleaning products- specifically the concentrate (H2 I think it’s called) and the dishwasher detergent. The concentrate cleaner goes a long way, although I’m sure there is a non-MLM version that works just as well (Mrs Myers maybe?). But I like the dishwasher detergent over anything else I’ve tried- it just works well and rinses clean without residue. Would be happy to wean off of it if someone could suggest an alternative that works as well..... |
Cascade works well and so does the wegmans brand dishwasher detergent. |
I’ve tried cascade, not as good IMO but thanks. No wegmans nearby. |

This is the problem. You make your money off your downline, not off of the makeup you sell. A lot of people that joined up under you probably didn't realize that part. I wonder how many of your downline people are making money? How many of the people you have recruited are still selling? Serious questions. |
| I hate what MLM has done to my cousin. I can't believe she fell for this nonsense anyway; I though she had better critical thinking skills. She's gone from a genuine person to a weirdo using bizarro "salesperson" language. She's a "mompreneur" who is only interested in seeing her friends and family in order to sell them her crap. It saddens me. She has really drunk the Kool Aid. |
Yes, it changes people. And not for the better. |
| What a bunch of spiteful women on this thread. Just bc some of us are running our own businesses whereas you all are just minions at the office. |
Shilling for an MLM is not your own business. Hilarious troll. |
Now you know what your friends and family think of you when they get another cut and paste sales pitch on Facebook messenger. |
