if you exclude CS and Engineering would you rather have a degree from CMU or Tech?


Cmu - tepper places quite well in finance and consulting.

What's to elaborate? When choosing between two college options, an important factor is that kids switch majors a lot. Not always by choice. We can't say what the $200k means to this family. This advice is more general.

Frankly, if this were the choice my son faced: he could get into VA tech engineering and I couldn't afforrd CMU (who gives little merit aid), I'd send my son to a different OOS flagship with similar reputation that had less of a weedout culture, was located closer to a major metro area, and had fewer of his high school classmates going there. YMMV.
