Why is it so hard for people to turn left at a traffic light?

Honking won't make people move. So why honk?

Because he paid a lot of money for his SUV and he is still 45 minutes from Germantown and the rest of us should have to suffer too.

Honking DOES make people move. You would know that if you ever tried it. But you’re too busy sitting there, quietly waiting for the daydreamers ahead of you to wake up. Enjoy their daydreams!

Sometimes or it could be a coincidence.

Regardless is it boorish and illegal.

People honk when they're in Germantown too.

Yet time after time, people sit behind the line and don't move forward, and when the light changes they stay there.

I know and its infuriating. I know someone will get on here and argue that its "dangerous to pull into the middle of the intersection and wait" but that is what you are supposed to do people!

No, it's not. I will turn left when I think it's safe for me to turn left, with respect to oncoming traffic and pedestrians in the crosswalk. And honking at me (if you're behind me and think that I should turn left) is not going to make me turn left any sooner.

NP. It's absolutely what you are supposed to do. No one is saying that you should turn before it is safe to do so, but you're supposed to pull into the intersection and wait THERE to make your turn. Maybe people behind you are honking to get you to move up, not because they necessarily want to you complete the turn.

And if you pull out into the intersection during rush hour, and the lane of traffic you're intending to follow doesn't move forward for any reason, you'll be stuck in the middle of the intersection. The horns will definitely be honking then as cars attempt to go around you!

If negotiating turns at busy intersections is too difficult for you then you should consider using public transportation. They offer senior discounts.

Ok. Write me a ticket. I’ll honk if you’re not driving when you should.

Where TF is Germantown?

Ask Venus Williams why you don't block the intersection.

One day I entered the intersection on green, waited for the light to turn red, and when it turned red I made the turn. Someone ran the red light and hit me. I wasn't found to be at fault but it has definitely made me scared to make left turns when the light changes. I do it but I always brace myself.

I don't stay in the intersection anymore because I never know when the oncoming traffic will stop. Some people will speed through the yellow light so fast. It doesn't give you enough seconds to make that turn and you are STUCK in the middle...so you end up turning at a red light. Or other drivers get really upset at you for being in the middle. Worse, you might get a flash and the ticket will arrive in the mail weeks later.

So...I don't get mad if the driver in front of me do not pass the line. What does piss me off is when it is green and it is clear to go but the driver is too damn busy on the cell phone to pay attention.

I only pull into the intersection if opposing traffic is flowing and I can see a gap coming. Otherwise, I wait behind the stop line.
So sorry.

Doesn't make me tirneft faster. In fact, when someone honks at me to turn left faster I look in my rear view mirror and glare at them, missing chances to turn left. Some.of us don't want to die in traffic, just so you and your SUV can make it somewhere 5 minutes faster.

This is so frustrating. There is an intersection in MoCo (coming from the Kentlands area on Quince Orchard Road and making a left on Clopper) where it takes some people 2-3 cycles before they realize that if they don't get in the middle of the intersection they simply will never be able to make the left turn! Gets some balls people!
