In the DC area, electricity generation comes from 40% nuclear, 30% natural gas and 23% coal. ALL DOMESTICALLY produced resources. This is not about what is the least polluting.

And if you did factor in pollution your individual carbon footprint is much higher when you drive a car vs. taking mass transit.
