If you live in a safe walking distance to either of those areas then I'd say both areas are "walkable". Can you safely cross the streets at the Sterling Center and are there sidewalks?

I consider "walkable" to be areas walkable (roughly <=1/2 mile) to a concentrated area of destinations. What's your definition?

Yes, there are a number of neighborhoods, all connected by sidewalks. There are also neighborhoods in Great Falls that can walk to a small shopping center. I am sure this is true in other places in Loudoun and Fairfax counties.

I just do not understand why Westover is always hailed as one of the few walkable areas in VA where it is really just a shopping center and there are tons of other areas that offer that same very limited walkability. I guess it is because it is a more expensive are and people like the Great Schools rating.

Is it one of few? I've never thought that.

What I personally like is the assortment of services/stores there - it's really like a small town. Post office, library, hardware store, barber shops, bank, playgrounds, fields, restaurants (three great ones), coffee shop, grocery store, beer garden, etc. There are pedestrian crossings and trees and benches. It's a pleasant area. If you live nearby almost everything you need is right there.

You don't have to find it desirable, but many people do.

Not the best curb appeal but interior is fine and it is walkable (WS=71) with good schools (GS=10,9,7). And it's $800k.

Cute in FCC - good schools (8, 9, 7) and walkable (76). A little over budget.

All of that is in the Cascades Shopping Center as well. They have a weekly Farmer's Market, and considerably more stores than than Westover. Additionally, it is right next to one of the NVCC campuses. There is also a library, a karate school, and we have a dance school coming. We also have a Starbucks, a Home Depot. a Giant grocery store, several hair and nail places, Pier One, a bunch of non-chain stores, waaaaaay more than Westover. Plus, sidewalks connecting us to 2 other shopping areas.

Sounds great! Lots of homes within 1/2 mile? How's the commute to Tysons & Springfield for OP?

Is this the correct area?

Close to a pool. WS=64, GS=4,6,8. Commute might be tough though? And how is it crossing Palisade Pkwy? Crosswalk w/light? Hard to see from satellite view.
