Why does anyone live in Spring Valley?

Anonymous
I live in AU Park not Spring Valley. I think Spring Valley is beautiful. Unless you are scooping up dirt from your yard and eating it, I am not sure there is any significant risk in living there. I would probably not grow vegetables without doing a soil test first.
You guys are acting a little crazy and irrational here.

How deep do they test though? Isn't the biggest issue the gasses rising from far beneath the home? Any crack in the basement lets those toxic gasses seep into the home.

False. The danger is toxic gasses rising from that toxic dirt.

False. You are absolutely making that up.

+1. Regardless of what the neurosurgeon states, there is more than enough anecdotal evidence from people I know who have lived in SV over the years that I'd avoid it. There are plenty of nice neighborhoods in DC that do not have munitions in the backyard.

Because as sentient beings, we are capable of making informed decisions based off of more than just anecdotes. You should hold yourself to a higher standard. At the very least, you should not cast aspersions upon those that exercise thought.

Sure, Jan.

I'm mainly confused as to why your impression is that the only neighborhoods in DC are Spring valley or transitioning areas with roving bands of MS 13 gang members.

Duh. It's beautiful with half acre lots , giant trees, crime free , quiet , great access to the best privates and country clubs in DC and MD.

No one knows what the danger is! This is was a test site, no one has a complete list of chemicals used, their sites, and how they were disposed. The only sane way to think of living in Spring Valley is as a roll of the dice.

And munitions!

Anyone who says mustard gas is nothing to worry about is lying to themselves. They literally just stopped clean up work again because they found another leaking container of mustard gas.

And agreed no one should be gardening here but you cannot tell me these kids that live there don't ever play in the dirt/mud?

Your home will cost $3M, but the mustard gas comes for free!

Even if the dangers are just a remote possibility, why would you expose your kids to that risk? There are many nice neighborhoods (Wesley Heights, Cleveland Park, Chevy Chase) that are free from these contaminants.

The same people who live in Mantua/Fairfax and Jacksonville, MD.

The Spring Valley apologists are just trying to defend their poor decisions. No rational person would buy a house in this neighborhood.

I didn't know that southern part of au park was affected. We just looked at three houses to buy right in that part earlier this year. Wow. Are they doing clean up in that part of au park and katzen as well?
