It's an elementary microschool (a Mysa middle school opened in Bethesda this year). Here are some details from an update that came out last week. Information sessions are in the works, the next round is coming up this Wednesday:

I can't believe Hyde-Addison families would pursue this microschool plan rather than deal with buses. The school will still have the same terrific staff, correct? Wow, if I were a teacher at HA I'd be hurt that my school community would abandon me in preference of some made-up nothing school. But this is quite a boon for OOB families. Good luck to them!

The families want to stay in the neighborhood. That is not so hard to understand; everyone has their preferences.

This may be the ultimate snowflakey behavior. The relocation is only temporary and not that big a deal. My kid's school is being renovated and we are doing the bus now and it really isn't that bad. My SIL's kids had to do this in MD (Takoma Park) several years ago and everyone survived.

Glad it is fine. It will be fine at Hyde too. But why does it bother you that some people choose another, local option instead of relocation for 2 years? Each to their own. Who cares if some families opt out. People leave dcps each year for all kinds of reasons.

If these families never come back to DCPS, then no big deal.

Since their seats will be backfilled by OOB students, who will gain rights to attend not just Hyde but Hardy and Wilson, these families near-term decisions will exacerbate the overcrowding at Wilson.

And they can pay $20,000 per year to do it.

Yes, they apparently can. Like many other DC parents. And maybe the biggest about Hyde was the location/ walkability. So move on and worry about your own family!

They had one of the highest percentages in the city of kids scoring 5 on the math section of the PARCC, so it seems to offer a bit more than walkability. I ranked it first for my kid, whose school seems to have ELA down cold, but offers less in the way of differentiated math.

Hyde piloted Eureka math last year which contributed to the good scores. Now all schools are using Eureka. Good luck. Hyde is a good place.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hyde has always had a large # of families leave before graduation.
