As a parent if child who was enrolled at Rodef I found the director very unprofessional and taking sides during a custody battle , also my child has not learned anything im school year, writting , sounds, ect kindergarten prep, it's more like a day care! Yes !teacher seem caring an nurturing but I plan on writting director of congregation and to issues arising that I am shocked about!

Did you do any research at all before enrolling your child? Google "Reggio Emilia" and then get back to me.

Not PP but I too have a happy boy at Rodef. He's 3 now. I'm not going to name specific teachers as I don't think that's appropriate in a public forum like this, and it would somewhat identify me as well because the class sizes are small.

Not very clear...are you saying Reggio Emilia means accepting an unprofessional director or settle for being a daycare? If that's your opinion, you really don't know Reggio.

No, but it includes not focusing on academic subjects in preschool. If your priority was to have your kid know how to read and write before kindergarten, you chose the wrong school.

I am sorry to hear you went through this. A custody battle is stressful enough without dealing with a director who takes sides.

We also had a bad experience with the director. I suggest documenting everything.

The director got involved in a custody battle in my family also. I have never heard of a pre-school, much less a Temple, that let it's director get involved in child custody issues in which she knew nothing about. At what point will the Board of Directors see what kind of liability they are facing here with their current director? Pre-school directors should stay out of court rooms. Multiple family cases she has injected herself into in just a few years is plain frightening, but, should make you feel not so alone.

That is awful! Did you complain in writing? What was the response?

Didn't a large group of parents come forward last year to complain? Did anything come of that?

Regarding the director inserting herself into custody battles, was she compensated financially for her time and transportation and if so, how much money did she receive? If she did indeed receive any compensation for her time it is worth discussing with the board if this fits with their policies.

Yes - hundreds of parents came out in support last June when two beloved teachers had conflicts with the director. But the Temple administration backed the director up, with little consideration for the best interests of the children or their parents. Those teachers are gone, and it sent a message to parents and other staff to keep quiet.

I would encourage anyone interested in this school to ask around to live, real people in the community rather than rely on these vague anonymous accusations. I did, and almost exclusively received glowing reviews. On that basis, I sent my kid to Rodef and it has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. Be very, very wary of anonymous mudslingers. It would be a shame to overlook a wonderful preschool, especially for those looking for a Jewish education.

I want to let any of you had a bad experience at Temple Rodef Shalom preschool know that things do get better once you leave. In fact we have not a bad school experience since. Our son spent a few years at a preschool which welcomed us with open arms. Our experience at public elementary school has been just as uplifting.

It saddens me that people of my own faith treated us as though a child who is different is defective. My son is bright, blossoming. Unfortunately he does not have a strong Jewish identity because of the negative associations he formed at such a tender and vvulnerable age and he still gets anxious if he even hears the words rodef, shalom or temple. The good news is he has been well liked, understood and well treated by his teachers and administrators since leaving TRS. He has a strong sense of self-worth, he is kind and compassionate and he is hard working and loves learning.

There is hope friends! Don't let Rodef get you down!

Forgot to mention..my son was at TRSNS during the tenure of the current Director. It was either her first or 2nd year so perhaps my complaints were ignored because they figured she needed time to adapt.

Riddle me this....If someone in this position has so many difficulties relating in a professional manner, why has she not been asked to get training or remediation in empathy skills, social skills, leadership skills, child development and professional ethics?

Wow. If it was THAT bad and you kept sending your kid back everyday, I'd say your kid's problem/fear of religion is just as much on you as the school. It's easy to place blame but ultimately you are the one who has to decide what's best for your kid. No matter how much money I'd paid, I would pull my kid in a heartbeat after one day if it was anything like you'd described. I certainly wouldn't have kept him there long enough to sour him on Judaism. What a sad story.
