| I've been following this thread, as my daughter is in 3rd grade at a small school. Currently, compacted math for the 4th/5th graders takes place at the middle school. Sounds like this will change next year due to the elimination of buses. The school has not been allocated any additional staff, so teachers will be required to provide that acceleration within the classroom. In other words, the same way it has been done this year, which isn't very much. Very frustrating! |

NP here. When MCPS introduced 2.0 and with it eliminated the previous math acceleration, there was a huge parental outcry and backlash that they were taking away from many students the very reasonable path of 7th-grade Algebra; this outcry is what led MCPS to backtrack and introduce compacted math in the first place. I have no knowledge about the district is planning/not planning, but whatever they call it, they will still have to keep some way for a large cohort of students to take Algebra in 7th grade. I don't think they would go through the same fight again. Parents were FURIOUS.

PP, you're already complaining about next year, even though next year hasn't happened yet, and you don't know how it will go. Why are you doing this? |
Who, specifically, made this announcement? |
Yes, it is. Reach out to your county level PTA leadership for more info. They have been advocating for compacted math at the county level. |
