Cuckoo's nest - Lahore Pakistan. Buried in the red light district and owned by the son of a prostitute, you climb multiple stories of cement steps passing through dimly lit rooms full of gorgeous, rich paintings (the son is a painter and collector) and come up to a rooftop lit entirely with candle that overlooks a mosque - all lit in muted greens. We arrived at dusk, watched the sun set over the city and then hot, freshly made food - chicken and beef kabobs and naans - are pulled up by pulleys to the rooftop in copper dishes on a pulley system - all the cooking is done over charcoal grills on the ground level. The whole night was magical.
My second favorite dining experience was in st lucia- at the Ladron restaurant which overlooks the ocean between the 2 pitons. It was our honeymoon and every bite was pure delicious. |
