SELA teacher exodus

PP you should email other parents so they are fully aware of the situation.

Wait, this is a random comment, but...

I just looked at Sela's website, which looks nice to an outsider. I noticed that they have Imagination playground blocks, lots and lots of them. Weren't they supposed to have a deal with Shining Stars to provide playground equipment? Did they buy Imagination playground blocks instead of doing that? Because on Shining Stars's website they are fundraising for their own Imagination playground blocks.

At our charter they are used during inclement weather. The kids play with them indoors.

What a disaster. oP, glad you are getting out. Hope you have a good alternative.

The HOS has been "busy" and unable to meet...at least that is through the secretary's communication with me. The email I sent directly to the HOS was never replied to so I resorted to calls. Again with no success. My husband and I have decided to leave the school but will give Sela just as much courtesy as they've given us with this situation. We've both moved from the disappointment back to the angry phase.

Teachers leaving at the end of the year is always a possibility, but almost ALL of the teachers? That's a problem for me as a parent. None of this has been communicated by the Head of School.

Has any parent even been told that next year they are changing their entire instructional model? As a parent I found out just by flipping through the school's website and saw they already posted next year's calendar and daily schedule. Curiously I peeked and saw a huge difference to this year's daily schedule and next year's. Was I told before finding this online? No. Is there a logistical, educational, or other reason this was done? It would be nice to know if decisions are being made for a reason or just arbitrarily.

The Hebrew Curriculum Director resigned. The Director of Operations resigned. The Special Education Director resigned in March (and was never replaced!) The board members come and go faster than their names are ever placed on the website. That's enough for me. I'm over this.

Wow! Can't blame you OP. Our children's education is too valuable to play with. Delays needs to get it together.

We had the same experience! Calls and emails left unanswered.. we finally gave up.

Are you guys letting other parents know?

Understand why parents are leaving. Suggest that on their way out the door they email all members of Sela's board and the DME. Maybe some sort of takeover could be warranted - thinking about kids who would be left in the lurch if these reports are true.

Sounds like the board needs to get into the day-to-day management.

sounds like they should have done it a while ago and that now it may be too late

Boards should not be involved in day-to-day operations and management. When that happens there are some really deep problems.

what's sad is the amount of resources that have been wasted by this school.
