| I'm 38 and have never had a mani or a pedi, nor do I have any desire to. Despite that, I have a pretty robust social life, a successful career and a healthy self image. |
My EX-boyfriend and I were out to dinner one night and he out of the blue asked me if i could start painting my nails red, like his mom. OMG. Now happily married to a man who has never cared about nor asked me to do anything to my nails (which are nice and clean and unpolished).

I got manicures with my mom as a kid every so often. I have no idea how old I was the first time ... Could have been anywhere between 8 and 11.
I have gotten pedicures but don't because I find them too expensive since they are uncomfortable for me (I'm very ticklish). I haven't gotten a professional manicure in months since that NYT article about the working conditions in nail salons came out. Just not comfortable. I've done my own nails |
