Why do liberals rush to defend Islam?

Beats me.

That's what happens when a network hires pussies like Anderson Cooper.

I think every media is scared. This is a massive failure for Obama , he needs to make us safe to speak. He is losing.

FWIW I'm married to a Muslim and have tons of Muslim friends, both those born here and immigrants from many different cultures. The ability to worship freely is about the only common denominator they have.
This is so true. The Muslims I know are the same.

I absolutely agree and I, too, have Muslim friends who have zero desire to live under a Muslim government.

One difference between our friends here in America and the Islamists may be partly down to a selectivity about which laws to follow. One of my best friends from college is Muslim, and she doesn't veil except when she prays. She doesn't eat pork, but she eats shrimp and likes a glass of wine.

The thing is, the Quran is, among other things, a set of rules governing many aspects of how to live your life as a man or woman, rituals, punishments, and laws regarding things like usury. If you're ISIS or the Taliban, you think a good Muslim needs to follow all of these laws, sharia, not just some of them. From there, it's not a very big step to think it would be easier to live by these sharia laws if they were the laws of your land. Yet the Quran doesn't explicitly call for separation of church or state; it doesn't say to follow the laws privately. So ISIS, by its own lights, is being consistent with the Quran by calling for full implementation of sharia which, by extension, would be easier with an Islamic government.

I'm willing to bet that the posters who have done the most heavy lifting over the past few months, in terms of calling Muslima and that other poster out on their BS, are liberals. I'm one, and I've read the other posters closely, and I'm pretty sure about this. The idiot conservatives calling Mohammed a pedophile just didn't know enough about the religion to call the two Muslim posters out on their dodger claims about the more arcane issues.

Yes, I want to tax the heck out of you (and me, my family is in the 5%) and redistribute it to poor kids here and overseas. Yes, I want more, not less, government regulation of Wall Street (another issue I happen to know a whole lot about). I also feel strongly, however, that in a democracy people should have accurate info about things, including Islam, and not some superficial dawwah sales job.

Conservative are the ones with the track record supporting and arming radical Islam. Without the conservatives, none of the current troubles would exist.

Yes maybe a ban on conservatives from service in office would be the wise step we can take. Their "track record" is horrible.

8:53 here. ITA! We definitely don't need another Bush who's in bed with the Wahhabi-financing Saudis. For so many other reasons, too.

I personally detest all patriarchal religions equally and would not follow one, nor introduce my children to one.

Nonetheless, I defend the right of anyone who wants to follow them. If my kids grow up to follow a patriarchal religion, I will accept it.

I personally hate the hijab. It offends every feminist, liberal bone in my body.

Nonetheless, I defend absolutely the right of all women in the US to choose what they wear without any interference whatsoever from the government.

I object to American conservatives/Christians/Republicans engaging in a campaign of hysteria relating to Islam. I object to the tendency to claim that Muslim bad guys represent an entire religion, and yet when a Christian does something evil, he is seen as a bad individual, and not representative of his group.

I don't relish defending Islam. It is the absurd, hysterical over-reaction in this country that pushes even me to have to say, "wait a minute - that's not being fair".

Just because I don't like a religion or an article of religious clothing doesn't mean I have the right to go out and spread fear, hate, and misinformation, demonizing the adherents and practices of that religion. THAT is why I am sometimes forced to be what I see as a "devil's advocate", so to speak.

Media in US is highly controlled by government and a current government is very pro-Islamic.

Can you provide examples that illustrate the fact that the current govt is pro-Islamic?

What do you think Obama should be doing?

It's the politically correct thing to do. For some liberals, it's the old fashioned postcolonial, postmodern, guilt trips. No one ever lost points, in polite DC society, for pretending to like al-Jazeera.

Reading the previous posts in the thread is not a requirement, don't worry.

+1 (except that I become a little less liberal with every passing year)
