wtf no delay?

You can't expect people to shovel while it is still snowing.

Today? Not really. It started snowing at 6ish am and was still coming down hard between 7:30 and 9. When do you want this shoveling to have happened? The problem is really just the confluence of snow and rush hour.

(I am usually the first to howl about sidewalks not being cleared, but think it's totally unfair to do so while the snow is still coming down hard...)

I think its a bit early for that. It just started snowing.
Non-SN kids can figure out how to walk in the snow.

Isn't the requirement to shovel within 2 hours of the snow stopping? I may be wrong. It is still snowing, so people are waiting to do it all at once.

Possible, but I'm not talking about your Ward 3 neighborhood, this downtown. Retail can't wait until this afternoon to shovel.

That's like saying there's no use in raking when there are still some leaves on the trees.

But shoveling is much more important.

It is now clear that the only shoveling that Mayor Bowser knows about is how to shovel BS.

I'm pretty sure those people are SAHMs who actually don't go downtown to work or have never had to walk in the snow in a suit.

The concept of snow freezing over tonight because they didn't shovel during the process is one maybe they don't understand. This is why DC is totally unable to deal with a "dusting"

Well, ward 4 is Muriel's ward--at least you're seeing plow trucks, we got nothing.

I live in Colonial Village in Ward 4 and have not seen a single plow! 16th Street is terrible. I could not even get off of my street to go to work. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED. WTF Muriel?

There were trucks skating on the ice in front of me as I drove my daughter to school this morning! We passed one accident outside the Home Depot in NE. One car just ploughed into another. It's nuts that DCPS was open this morning, or at least not delayed. It's incredibly dangerous out there. And where's Muriel? I was silently cursing her all the way to school.

I live right outside of Mount Vernon Square and shoutout to our retail (Busboys and Poets, Ace Hardware, and others) because they got their shoveling done this morning.

My heartbreak happened this morning after finally making it to my son's school and seeing the kids get off the bus and run for breakfast only to learn they had missed it. I have always thought it was right to get as many kids in school to ensure they have meals (among other things of course)...but then to not have meals for the kids after they had been on a bus for several hours I am guessing - is a real shame.

I am not blaming the school either - they were working to try to manage the kids who were there while many teachers were working to get to the school just like us.

I am one of those parents who usually get upset when one snowflake brings a two hour school delay. but today schools should have been delayed. we are in Chevy Chase and there is way more than one inch on the ground (more like 2-3 already and it is still coming). with the early traffic of people trying to get to work/take kids to schools the trucks that are treating the road got stuck in traffic. This area is not flat, and cars are getting stuck on untreated uphill roads. Military road was closed between nevada and CT (so you can imagine the mess around that area, we got stuck in the car to the point that I left my DH there and walked with the kids tio school, down nevada and up Nebraska to Murch - when i went to get the late slips for the kids they laughted in my face, they were not giving late slipd today since tons of people were late). my DH just called me he is trying to get back home after beign stuck on the Beltway on his way to work. I think a two hour delay would have allowed a better treatment of the roads and a better commute to school/work.

From Muriel's inauguration remarks:

I will have grand expectations…and I expect you will too. Like winning the Olympics for Washington, DC in 2024…I'll have simple ones, too: -- clear the snow – pick up the trash—pave the streets—synchronize the lights.

BTW. - if your kids take the Deal/Wilson bus through Mt. Pleasant - I would be wondering if they made it. Porter was closed from Beach Drive to Connecticut this morning because nobody could make it up the hill.

So do you rake every time a leaf falls? Or wait until a convenient point to be efficient? Maybe 2-3 times during the fall.

I'll be shoveling my sidewalk when I get home from work today.
