Have been stereotyped as a 'Tiger Mom.' Strangest note from teacher.

why would a teacher complain about parents' suppliment? Isn't that a good thing?

1. The schools and more so the teachers are under A LOT of pressure to show gap reduction. This is hard. Parents that educate their kids in school make the gap worse. Its better to for the teachers for the high performing kids to not perform so high.

2. The kids are bored because they are doing what they did in preschool. A bored first grader wiggles, talks to other kids and has trouble sitting still. When they get older they can doodle or daydream and no one cares.

3. The kid asks the teacher why he has to draw circles to figure out 2+2=4. The teacher is reminded how stupid the curriculum is that she has to dish out every day.

wow, that explains why my 3rd grader came home with comic strips on the back of every class assignment, and why he kept asking for help to answer the question "explain how drawing circles helps you learn multiplication" . Yes, they are still drawing circles after 3 years.

Is this story for real? I worked in education for eight years, and I never heard a story like this. It seems like a big assumption for the teacher to make. I wonder what exactly the teacher thinks you and the other parents did. What if a child was reading about a subject on his/her own, and it had nothing to do with the parents? As a parent, I'd want the teacher to describe what they're seeing in the classroom. Then, they could say what is negative about what they're seeing. Then everybody could figure out what led to the negative effect, and who could do what to avoid that.

Maybe the email isn't real on at least in OP's context but I have no doubt some teachers feel that way. I'm white and I supplement and I don't care at all with other people think. I think it's one of the stupid things about 2.0 educated people are going to supplement so the achievement gap is going to get larger. In the past, poor kids had a chance to learn at a higher level.
