I know this is an old thread... but I thought I'd chime in since this is my name. I'm an adult, and my name is spelled Anna, but pronounced Ana (like Anna in Frozen). No, I'm not foreign. Yes, you can absolutely do this, even if you're American. It's not a burden on people to pronounce it correctly, and they usually get it pretty quickly. I love my name! It's a little unique, but simple and pretty.
Yep, A A ron, you hit the nail on the head. Most people just say Eir-on. |
They are pronounced the same way
Ok OP, let's summarize. Most of DCUM wouldn't pronounce Ana the way you want on the first pass (or second, or in my case ever-- I am still missing the difference) even if you spelled it correctly. So it's beyond insane to use the spelling Anna and expect anyone to every get it right. Honestly, if you are US based, I'd spell it Ana and resign myself to a lifetime of correcting everyone, spell it Anna and use that pronunciation or throw in the towel and try again. But people are going to have no idea what you are talking about if you call you child Anna and then correct people by saying that it's pronounced like Ana. As 6 pages of argument on this thread can attest to.
I have a friend named Ana, short for Anastasia. Pronounced the same as Anna.
