Seeking advice on Fairfax County Public High Schools

Yes Powerpoint presentations do take time to put together and they require more than a rudimentary understanding of the content being taught. However, you ignore the fact that there are thousands of off-the-shelf PowerPoint presentations already created, archived and ready to use. To reduce this phenomenon down further there are dozens of PowerPoint presentations already in existence free for the taking created by school departments, Ed Schools at colleges and textbook publishers on every lesson imaginable in every subject taught.

Teachers have the options of creating their own presentations, using something off- the- shelf, or cutting /pasting slides/adding slides to customize existing presentation materials.

FCPS teachers are unwilling to work hard enough to to attain the level of mastery required to give quality presentations. The result is they give assignments but they fail to teach the content body of the lessons themselves. They give their students assignments and then wish them good luck.

They should call it the Deist Teaching Method.

Ah ... Carpe diem!

FCPS of course once you sift away the chaff and demand excellence. They can do it, they just don't!

I trust you are now going to become a teacher, and you will simply cut and paste powerpoints. I am sure your students will be oh so thrilled and engaged with these wonderful lessons.

There are thousands of publisher quality PowerPoint presentations readily available for every imaginable lesson in every subject. Any teacher not teaching lessons supported by graphic presentations is doing so by choice and choice alone.

There are LCD projectors in every classroom in FCPS because Central Administration expects teachers to use multisensory presentations when conducting lessons, but of course they don't.

So, are you saying that the use of Power Point presentations is the mark of a good teacher?

They are marvelous devices with many interesting functions. However, with new technologies there are often times glitches. One of those glitches with smartphones is that they have a function called autocorrect which occasionally will change a word like bored to board.

People living in the modern world are familiar and forgiving of such tech glitches. However, don't worry about it once you return to the U.S. you'll be back up to speed ion six months or so.

In the mean time perhaps you can hang out with FCPS English teachers who are incapable of teaching Shakespeare, but who are always willing to massively reduce a student's grade if they actually used the word board instead of their intended meaning of bored.

Uhm, the State Department doesn't have "trade consuls." The Foreign Service branch of the Commerce Department - the U.S. Commercial Service - is the lead agency for U.S. trade promotion overseas! Now, jackass needs to get off the thread!

Poor OP! S/he comes to ask about experiences with local schools and some jackass hijacks the thread to make it yet another example of worthless DCUM rants. Where is Jeff? Over at the Politics forum?

Good teachers address the modalities of their students. Good teachers incorporate as many of the five senses into their lessons as possible. To not include visual learning into a lesson for able bodied students is almost incomprehensible.

I've been patient up to this point but please don't ask anymore of these amateurish middle school mentality methodology questions Mimicking me would be more mature and less annoying than the jag you're on now!

Well, it is clear you aren't a teacher. Your snarky comment here would mean you couldn't handle students who don't meet your expectations. It is also clear you have nothing of value to share. Your vague accusations, without any clear evidence regarding teachers has become completely pointless.

If you are a FCPS parent, upset about a grade based on grammar, take it up with that teacher and stop your inane ranting.

I want a shinny gold star. Wait, what's a shinny gold star?

I'm think it's a bored high school kid who got a bad grade (or two) and now is mad at all FCPS teachers. The writing style strikes me as 11th or 12th grade level.
