Yes. It is. |
| Put all of your geisha-like comments into this context. Is it okay to blacken your face and dress like an African native. If the answer is not (as it should be for any thinking individual), then other cultures and races should also be respected. Basically, folks Halloween isn't an excuse to make a mockery or belittle others. |
| Why do you assume it isa white person who doesn't understand the meaning of "garb"? It could be anyone. |
You have got to be kidding me.. |
So, let's demand that this be banned too? "it is a mad world and it will get madder if we allow the minorities, be they dwarf or giant, orangutan or dolphin, nuclear-head or water-conversationist, pro-computerologist or Neo-Luddite, simpleton or sage, to interfere with aesthetics. The real world is the playing ground for each and every group, to make or unmake laws. But the tip of the nose of my book or stories or poems is where their rights end and my territorial imperatives begin, run and rule. If Mormons do not like my plays, let them write their own. If the Irish hate my Dublin stories, let them rent type-writers. If teachers and grammar school editors find my jawbreaker sentences shatter their mushmilk teeth, let them eat stale cake dunked in weak tea of their own ungodly manufacture. If the Chicano intellectuals wish to re-cut my “Wonderful Ice Cream Suit” so it shapes “Zoot,” may the belt unravel and the pants fall." -- Ray Bradbury |
| Actually, very tasteless. Why do people think Halloween should be open season to be jackasses? I guess you all aren't so enlightened, openminded and PC as you pretend to be. |
Excellent explanation with pictures why ethnicity in costumes is racist and insensitive. Educate your selves and open your narrow minds. |
Good grief, that Native American costume comes with a tomahawk! |
See, this is why nobody should ever cite Ray Bradbury when it comes to politics (as opposed to literature). Because the real world is not actually the playing ground for each and every group, to make or unmake laws. The ideal world might be. But the real world isn't. |

What about this one:
or this one |
Are you really trying to compare painting on black skin color to wearing a kimono? You do realize that one is an aspect of one's race and the other is an aspect of one's culture? Apples and oranges. |
I stopped reading after "whitest white girl" Does that mean you are Albino? Or is that a way of saying you are racially pure? Is there a white girl contest that you won that makes you "The Whitest" |
The author's chief complaint, though, is that the costumes are overly sexualized. However, MANY Halloween costumes are overly sexualized, if that's the type of costume you are looking for. Just Google: "sexy nun costume" or "sexy crayon costume" or God forbid, "Sexy gorilla costume". No one is singling out certain ethnicities for over sexualization of their costumes. HALLOWEEN COSTUMES in general are being oversexualized. Seriously, I dare you. Google "Sexy Gorilla Costume." http://www.costumecraze.com/ANML27.html I remember this thread from 2 years ago.... http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/190191.page |
Umm, nope. It will be Miley Cyrus as the twerkin' sex pot fool. |
