The Big Valley - Barbara Stanwyck as the matriarch. |
The first for these programs but not for PBS. Somebody else rang in wit Are You Being Served? |
I forgot about Julia. It was indeed a groundbreaker. |
The Friday night lineup was T.H.E Cat, Honey West, and then The Avengers. A reason to stay home on Friday night or watch before you went out. |
I absolutely hated Leave It To Beaver specifically Beaver. I liked Eddie Haskell though. |
Yes, I so remember this! It was much more realistic having a single mom although there are many more single father shows, e.g., Andy Griffith, Courtship of Eddie's Father, My Three Sons, Different Strokes, Family Affair, Too Close for Comfort, Blossom, Full House. It's only recently that single dad households have increased, but single father shows have always been a TV staple: http://blog.sfgate.com/sfmoms/2013/07/03/single-fathers-head-record-number-of-households-with-children/ |
Interesting. I wonder why all the earlier shows had single dads and virtually no single moms? But there was always a female around whether it was a relative or girlfriend or in the case of My Three Sons and Family Affair a male housekeeper who was basically neutered. |
I liked Eddie too in a bad boy kind of way. Add 'Night Court' for my contribution. |

The Partridge Family: remember Jody Foster as Danny's GF |
Adding Mork and Mindy, Who's the Boss and My Sister Sam. Also loved many of those "after school specials" and the Sunday night Disney movie - Escape to (or from?) Witch Mountain. |
Watched and loved just about every show mentioned here. I'm a huge geek and now I'm so nostalgic it hurts!!! |
