Better to major in CS than generic "IT or Systems Engineering." It's laughable that UVa awards a bachelors degree in Systems Engineering. Where's the real engineering there? |
| Do anybody know the percentage of girls in computer engineering or CS? My DD is considering these majors. |
It depends which school, whether your DC will graduate in debt, what field of study is of interest, what the personal & geographic factors are, and many other variables. It's not just about gross tuition and overall school rank. |
Probably close to 0 with computer engineering....with higher representations in the best schools like MIT, CalTech, etc. Higher with CS though. |
+1 |
I have no dog in this fight, but that's just shitty to say to someone. How incredibly rude and hurtful, not to mention ignorant and ill-informed. PP - ignore this jacka@@, please! |
Yes..if CS and Engineering are what you want, UMCP ( University of MD at College Park) is way better than UVa Engineering and CS. http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/computer-science-rankings |
I agree with your general sentiment, but 14th vs 28th is not "way better". If I was interested I'd look at what research the professors were doing to see if there was a match with what I wanted to do. |
