Compton and Long Beach, now you know you in trouble.

how we feel about cali:

If I got to choose a coast I gots to choose the East
I live out there, so don't go there
But that don't mean a nigga can't rest in the West
See some nice breasts in the West
Smoke some nice sess in the West, y'all niggas is a mess
Thinkin' I'm gon' stop, givin' L.A. props

A lot of parents insist that kids stay within a reasonable car ride of home. St. Louis. (Wash U) is the outer limit for many.

Who considers Wash U a reasonable car ride from the DMV? It is unreasonable and a few more hours on a plane land you in LA or SF.

I don't think ANYBODY considers THAT many colleges outside their geographical area. I know I grew up on the East Coast and I don't really know much about "those big square states" in the middle of the country. I couldn't really tell you the different between "U of I,"IU," Iowa," blah blah blah Northeast Iowa, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois. Really, they are a blur to me. Shrug.

Pomona, some of the other Claremont colleges, Berkeley and Reed have some appeal. But in terms of sheer numbers, there are many more desirable schools on the East cost.

There are more schools on the east coast since it is older. Everyone on the west coast does not want to come east for college. If they did many little darlings would be displaced by more qualified students. DC colleges and universities would no longer be NJ south. UVA and W and M are extensions of HS. Bowdoin etc are still somewhat extensions of prep school.

Some schools in the east are regarded as being in dreary locations. Snow, ice, in the middle of nowhere.

Way to miss the point. The point was, more kids appy to East Coast schools because, going by sheer numbers, there are more highly-regarded East Coast schools than West Coast schools. A California kid who has the stats to apply to Stanford and Berkely (and Cal Tech if STEM-oriented) is never going to just apply to those two schools, that would be suicide. So the California kid applies to HYP/ivies (and maybe MIT) as well. Whereas the NYC kid has enough good options close to home that it's not necessary to contemplate that 5-6-hour flight to CA.

I'm here because I make almost twice as much in my field and cost of living here is less. No one wants to live here.

Ditto (miss my peeps in Cali)

Then you did it all wrong. I lived in San Francisco and San Diego among others, and during the years I've been in DC metro, I complained nonstop about how everything is so expensive here.

Hmmm... when did you live in San Francisco? It's been much more expensive than the DC area pretty much forever.

So take out the 'N' word and substitute redneck can't rest in the West and y'all honkys/crackers is a mess. So, how do YOU like being called out of your name? DCUM moderator didn't see a problem with your poem so I guess they won't have an issue with someone white being called vile names.

PP here again...I don't care who's using the 'N' word whether they're black, white, green, purple. It's an UGLY word whether it's used in poem, song, comedy, or wherever. DCUM should have some modicum of class no matter how minute.

Yes, I lived in the hood of Oakland in a 1 bedroom apt for 2200/mo. DC metro is not at all more expensive then bay area.
