Why is so difficult to accept the rights of others, even though you don't personally like the decisions of others?

There are plenty of things I don't want for myself - (smoking marijuana, smoking cigarettes, eating fast food, etc), but I support the rights of others to choose differently for themselves.

You don't have to personally love or engage in something, to understand and respect the rights of others to choose and do differently - especially when they cause no harm to you.

It isn't. You just can't force it through legislation.

No one is forcing you to love these people through legislation.

Acceptance, isn't that what's being forced?

no. Equality under the law. I'm sure you can think of lots of groups that have rights, even though you detest the things they stand for.

Won't getting rid of DOMA be sufficient? Remember, when Rosa Parks was pulled off that bus, she wasn't beaten by the populace, she was arrested because she was breaking GOVERNMENT regulation. Jim Crow laws was again, GOVERNMENT. So getting rid of onerous legislation like DOMA is what's called for. Replacing it with more legislation is ridiculous since it's always been Government that has caused the problems.

Well to a gay person state marriage laws ARE their Jim Crow laws, and it took the court and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to end it.

I don't think there is any chance of a federal law that specifically requires gay marriage at the state level. That has to come from SCOTUS. And if it did the appropriate analogy would be Brown v. Board.

^^^^ a good example of the gay sin being so pernicious is how they are so twisted as to compare the obsession with anal sex to the plight of black people.

If you were a minister, would you rephrase the marriage vow: "Do you promise to put your penis in her vagina, and only in her vagina, from this day forth?"

I was comparing marriage, not a sexual act. It is your sinful state that makes you think that marriage = sex.

Hey guys, whatever happened to love the sinner, hate the sin?

*^^^^which is why marriage with sin at its core is so hateful. Not the person, the "marriage"

Whatever happened to separation between church and state?

You want your theocracy? Then GTFO and move to Iran.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs about gay marriage, abortion, gun control, etc.

Why is it so hard for a liberal of all people to understand that people are entitled to have varying opinions on these fundamental issues? Otherwise, what makes us different from a dictatorship?
