How often do you hear this? So annoying.

How should it be pronounced?

You're kidding, right? Just checking.

If the poster who asked was kidding, I'm not. How do you think it should be pronounced?

agree with the "Jane and I" when it should actually be "Jane and me"... poster.

also, their/ they're, there confusion, "more prettier" "more stronger" etc. I actually know grown ups who use both of these often.

I also have a friend who says "Chip-ol-te" instead of Chipotle which drives me nuts.

"aks" instead of "ask", "expecially", and several others like this that were mentioned on previous pages.

NP here- isn't Cache pronounced like cash (like to cache your browser) and cachet is pronounced like cashay?

Uh oh. That's me. In my defense, I am local and did grow up here. Saying WASH-ington sounds off and very unnatural for me.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, near Washington, PA, and about 25% of the western PA natives call it Warshington, PA. Never understood why then and still don't now.

So, PP, any idea where the invisible "r" came from? I'm curious how this ever got started.

I know a number of people from Western PA who say "warshing machine"
and "run up a room" for "clean a room".

Regional expressions are the only explanations I have received.

A whole 'nother (as in "that's a whole 'nother story."). It's "another" or "a whole other", not both!

They're saying "should 'ave," which is a perfectly legit non-formal prinunciation. If they write "should of" you have a problem.

If you say this, you grew up in Maryland, not Washington.

Using "grown ups" for "adults" when speaking to an adult audience (and actually it's annoying when used for children's benefit, too, as they can understand what an adult is, too).
