Well, if someone kidnapped your child you'd be free to enjoy your income then. Win-Win, right? Why can't grandpa fly to stay with the child while you work? Then kiddo could call him dad. Wait, where was the dad in all this? Oh you don't know who he is? Yeah, I knew it. |

My dad can't fly due to health issues. The kiddo's dad died in the line of duty, but thanks for assuming the worst. |

I remember a story not too long about a girl that was molested during the entirety of a Trans-Atlantic flight. No one knew as the man next to her used a blanket as cover the entire time and the flight crew wasn't aware that the minor was unaccompanied.
At 9, my girl would fight to the death before allowing this to happen. Now, my son (7) would just shut down and detach because that's the kind of kid he is. I would have sent my DD at six because she has always been very confident, competent, able to read, and very mature. DS may be 40 before he goes on a flight by himself, if ever. Starting at 12 I would take a 10 hour, over night, Amtrak train to go and see my older siblings. At least I could pick my own seat and put my belongings into the seat next to me, or lay across the seats to deter people from sitting next to me. |

Untrue about flight attendants - I was recently on a flight - kinda full (from east to west coast!) And there was a girl maybe 7. Only once did the flight attendants talk to her. I had an aisle seat and she was one row up from me aisle as well. The poor thing looked nervous and had a snoring business man next to her. I felt horrible for her so we started talking. I even have her my laptop to watch a movie . |

And then stay where? In our studio apartment with us? Why don't you just post a picture of yourself so I can show it to DD when telling her if anything goes wrong on her flight to look for a nice person to help her, and here's a picture of someone to stay away from. |

No. And I had it spelled out in my divorce decree that my child would not fly unaccompanied until 8 and then only direct flights until he's 12.
My child has flown at least 3x/yr since he was 10wks old, but even though he'd probably be comfortable on his own at 6, I don't think I will be. Not because of pedophiles, but because there are too many stories of kids getting lost, diverted, etc. Plus, my XH is a flake and there's a good chance he wouldn't be at the airport on time at the other end and that's a chance I didn't want to take. At 8, that's old enough to have a cell phone for emergencies/unexpected changes. At 5 or 6, probably not. |
