My house is too small and i hate it!

We have a screened in back porch (I dont even think you can call it that because the screens are falling to pieces). We have 4 small bedrooms and the dining room and living room are pretty much one room. There is a basement but it is small. One of the bedrooms is in the basement. I really would like to clean my back porch and put a hot tub, but that is nothing more than a hopeless dream. We have a HHI of 150K if that matters. I guess I am just getting burnt out from the size of this house and then I feel worse when I know that people live in one room homes with 4 kids in worse situations. Does anyone have any links to smaller homes that are decorated to look nice, or ways that they have made their smaller home pass for being bigger?

OP, don't let anyone bully you here. I fully understand. This area is so damn expensive and my advice to you is a long-term plan for relocation. I've overstayed this area and fully, wholly, regret it.

In the meantime though, a magazine like Country Living helps a lot. Also, look here on Instagram. Holly has some great idea!

Having lived abroad, I guess I’m used to smaller spaces. Americans have ginormous houses compared to most of the world. And yes I’m talking about developed high standard of living places. I’ve read that newer generations will shift away from the big houses to smaller/more affordable/greener options.

Okay i know these step sound obvious and annayoing but firstu will need time for this)

-Clean up ur house;do a quick sweep or call house cleaners
This might be one of the reasons you feel your house is too small

-Get rid of stuff you dont need- Sounds easy enough1

-Know where to keep things . you dont need a lot of things to have a neat+organized and classy home.

HAVE A GOOOOD DAYYY !!

Are you good at organizing and creating storage systems? It makes a big difference if everything has a dedicated spot.

Thanks for your post. It’s been 7 years since I started this thread, but the wait is finally over: storage systems! Why didn’t I think of that?!. I just wish you responded 5 or 6 years sooner, as I’ve been paralyzed in my small house waiting for your insight.

You bumped a seven year old thread with the brilliant idea of storage systems?

Anonymous wrote:good advice guys! i left my computer to go tidy the kitchen and i moved some things around so that some space opened up and the kitchen is a bit more spacious/efficient!

also, how can i make the porch nicer? considering we no longer have seasons around here in the DMV it would be a nice outdoor space for some time to come.

TIA!

(Round of applause for no arguments on here... it seems like all my posts start a frenzy lol....I know its only a matter of time however before that changes because this is DCUM)

We no longer have seasons? I missed that memo.
