According to this report, the kids were not told until just before the announcement, when they were already in Ohio: "While there, Governor Palin’s children, who had been told they were going to Ohio to celebrate their parents’ wedding anniversary, were told for the first time that their mother would be a nominee for Vice President of the United States of America." http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/08/29/1307122.aspx |
I thought they weren't told because she wanted it to be a happy surprise for her husband and family. |
That is too bad, I mean God. That Palin woman may be a Reformist and tough and gun-totin' and have her weird up-do all cute, but she is kind a of a crap mom. Sorry, just what I think. Maybe it is double standard, but how would YOU feel with her as your mom? Ugh. She sucks and she is going to sink the ticket, which is an upside... |
that last sneering comment exemplifies why Palin is going to be really popular outside the beltway. |
I was the PP here. I am not saying she isn't a good politician, maybe even a great one. But do you think people will think she is a GOOD MOM? She threw her kids to the wolves...maybe people outside the beltway like to protect their children...maybe they will not think she is so fabulous. |
Maybe Dad will pick up the pieces. Isn't that traditionally what the wives have done? |
Sarah Palin is having Bristol and her fiancee join her on stage after her speech at the Convention. What the h---?
Poor Bristol. And poor self described "redneck" from Alaska (per facebook page). This is not in keeping with keeping her off limits. She is trotting her out to raise her political points, with, I doubt, much thought for the girl herself. |
pp here- I meant withOUT much thought for the girl herself! |
Hmmm...would this have happened to Chelsea if she were in a similar situation? Her parents were protective of her as a teenager. Also I wonder how the Bushes would have handled it. Hard to see them doing this. But then maybe all those young women would have gotten abortions. (Laura doesn't strike me as the hard core pro-lifer type!) I shouldn't jump to conclusions until I actually see how they do this, if they do this, but it doesn't' sound good if it's true. |
Can't think of anything dumber to do with your 17 year old girl. Last I checked, the pill doesn't prevent STD's and pregnancy is definitely not the worst thing you can "catch." Condoms, condoms, and more condoms. |
Palin is a woman who has achieved a great deal of success, and I'm witnesssing so many women trying to tear her down based on their "perception" of her parenting skills. It's sickening. For all you know, her children could be very proud of her for all of her accomplishments. It's all speculation, tailored to support your political view. |
I'm sure her 4 mos old infant is incredibly proud of his absent mother! Thank goodness for his pregnant sister who's giving him some TLC! I'm baffled that we arent able to tease out the following:
1. I thought Palin was a HORRIBLE pick even before I knew her family background, her policies and social conservatism scare me-provencal and dangerous 2. VP and possible president of the US is a "job" that is incomparable to any other job in the world 3. Stating the obvious that her five children including a baby and pregnant teen will not get lots of "mommy time" if she gets into office isnt sexism, it's a fact that doesnt bother all women, but it bothers me As my husband reminded me, what a blessing it is that we can even have the discussion/debate about a female VP candidate, the country is opening up and diversifying in all aspects and for that I'm so grateful. I |
Ha! I guess it's how you define "great deal of success." I have no respect for her, but it has less to do with my "perception" that she will have much less time with her pregnant unwed teen daughter, 4 mo old with special needs, and three other children and everything to do with her extremist views, track record of abuse of executive power, and flip-flopping. That is more than enough--and it ain't my perception. Also, I love listening to the radio intervew clip in which she laughs at her interviewer her female cancer-surviving political opponent woman a "bitch" and a "cancer." What an unqualified success as a woman AND a human being. |
When you're the Republican "pro-family" candidate, then, yes, how you manage your own family life is of interest. Especially if you are trying to push your bogus "pro-family" (anti-choice, anti-sex-ed, pro-abstinence) values on me and other women and girls in this country. I don't buy into the Republican-managed message that Palin's family life is off limits! Let the press leave Palin's children alone---but Palin is fair game for questioning. And why is the press repeating the twaddle about how the Palin campaign had to spill the beans to dispel nasty rumors by the Dems about Palin's pregnancy? What, they were going to keep it hidden for the next four months and hope their daughter retreated to a hideaway in ANWR and no one would ever find out? Was Palin's daugher going to carry her brother in front of her for the rest of the campaign? Obviously, they had to announce her pregnancy at some point soon . . . since you can't hide a pregnancy forever . . .and since it was common knowledge in her hometown, according to press reports. This rumor story is just a bogus concoction by the Republican campaign to create false outrage and distract the public from the news. C'mon! Can you imagine what the Republicans would say if a Democratic candidate for VP had a pregnant unwed daughter? Would they hold back from ripping the Dem apart as a purveyor of the worst kind of values? I don't think so . . . And finally . . .why would McCain pick someone to be VP who belonged to a political party promoting secession of Alaska?? Sheesh . . . |
Can you really blame her for running? Really now if you had a once in a lifetime chance to secure the financial future and social standing of your family and make history at the same time and maybe even set a good example for your kids for a 4 year tenure, behind the scenes type job, and you know your spouse would probably never have that kind of opportunity to impact your family, wouldn't you apply? Just because she has one kid who did something looked down on by society, what are the other kids like? Wasn't/isn't Al Gore's son less than perfect compared to his daughters? And remember Chelsea Clinton is the only child of two politically savvy ivy league educated lawyers with years of experience in politics. |
