No - because some clubs don't allow jews or women. In this day, these places should not be allowed to discrimate like that. |
The clubs mentioned on this thread all have women and jewish members, except no women at Burning Tree and probably not a lot of Jews at Columbia. |
Woodmont is typically where Jewish families belong. |
Kenwood is not a priave and exclusive country club. Its a for-profit business run by an owner. There is no board. You just join. Pretty much open to anyone who wants to join. |
and, FWIW, Columbia is also known as "The Catholic Country Club." Everyone I know who belongs there is Catholic and they all admit its "a Catholic club." |
You really think the food is great? It is terrible!!! But, then again, most club food is bad, but Columbia's is awful. Also, the "lap pool" gets a ton of use in the winter. It is great for kids. |
Yup compared to other clubs I have been to the food is great and a vast improvement from when I was younger. The crab cluster is amazing! But to each their own. The lap pool was a waste of money and a ridiculous addition to the club. The adult pool was much better and they should have never changed the layout in my opinion. |
Pool food is bad at all of them. A little better at Chevy. Indoor food is best at Columbia and Congressional. |
I think the people on this forum are way more judgemental than anyone in the country clubs being discussed. OP - you want to join a group of elitist?? You just did, its called dcurbanmom.com

I'll have to disagree with you on there if you are inluding outside of the D.C. area I live in a large city with a col that is much lower than D.C.'s and many actual middle income people have nannies and yes, they are paid within the correct rate of area, on the books, etc. |
Whatever. I'm pretty sure you can't take that money with you. Might as well enjoy it however you want. |
And 0.02% blacks/hispanics. And yes, there are plenty of wealthy blacks in this city. Why don't they join the CC? |
Well, I guess I'm one of those upper middle class blacks in the city, and actually, several of my black friends are members of country clubs. But frankly, my kids go to private school, and in our free time I'd like them to be in a more diverse environment. Plus, we don't golf. All our friends who joined clubs are golfers. We just join a pool for the summer. |
A young couple was golfing one day on a very exclusive course lined with million-dollar houses. On the third tee, the wife sliced her shot right through the large front window of the biggest house along the course. They walked up, knocked on the door and heard a voice say, "Come on in."
When they opened the door, they saw glass everywhere and a broken bottle lying on the floor. A man on the couch said, "Are you the people who broke my window?" The husband began to apologize, but the man cut him off, "Actually, I want to thank you, I'm a genie who was trapped in that bottle, and your wayward shot released me. I'm allowed to grant three wishes, so what I'd like to do is give each of you one wish, and I'll keep last one for myself." "Fantastic!" said the husband. "I want a million dollars a year for the rest of my life." "No problem," said the genie, "it's the least I can do." "I want a house in every country in the world," said the wife. "Consider it done," said the genie, "and now for my wish. Because I've been trapped in that bottle, I haven't had sex in a really long time. My wish is to sleep with your wife." The husband looked over at his wife and said, "Well, we did get a lot of money and all those houses...If you don't mind honey, I don't either." The wife agreed. The genie took her upstairs and ravished her for 3 hours. After he was through, the genie looked at the wife and asked, "How old is you husband, anyway?" "Twenty-five," said the wife. "And he still believes in genies?" |
I'm with you PP. We also have kid in private, and prefer a more diverse environment in our free time. I actually haven't found that many DC private school families have interest in joining these clubs. |
