As for house values...My house (and neighborhood) never saw recession. Our property values were some of the few in the metro are that Actually INCREASED over the last 5 years. My own house is about $175k more tHan it was worth in 2006. 1 mile to DC, 2 blocks to Clarendon metro and never having to use a car with over 70 bars and restaurants to walk to, 3 gyms, retail, Trader joes, Whe foods, parks, Pinkberry, independent coffee houses, wine shops, etc. I love where we live which is why there is usually over a 2 year wait for a house to even come on the market over here...and then 100 ppl descend on the open house. There are "want ads" in the local newspapers for ppl desperate to find something. I most certainly didnt overpay--but that's what people say that don't factor "location" into the equation.

Too funny. Most of the properties on the market now in Lyon Village have been listed for over 50 days.

You sound pathelogically committed to promoting the coolness of your nabe. Get a grip. It's still fricking Arlington, not the Left Bank or Tribeca. A reasonably nice suburb but, well, that's about it. Better schools than Alexandria or DC and smaller houses than Fairfax.

No, retard. Those are the same $1.4-1.8 million houses. Two of them are in the shitty section...and the others are desperately over-priced (one is offered at the price and needs a gut job). There are like 6 houses total. Every thing else has gone in under 3 days, consistently. The contracts are actually in place before then.

I am not using terms like 'nabe', etc. I just don't understand why if you don't live in Arlington you are in a post related to Arlington over-crowding. Perhaps you are the one with the issues.

From what I can tell, the trashing here was of Fairfax by an Arlington resident who made a number of inaccurate statements about Fairfax neighborhoods and schools, and seems to be under the misimpression that people in Fairfax would jump at the chance to live in Arlington if onlyh they could.

Really, we're happy if you like your Arlington neighborhoods and schools. They may not be for us, and not because we can't afford them, but so what? Vive la difference. Just stop trying to make yourselves feel good by putting us down.

I am confused. I have kids in Arlington schools so I don't click on anything related to Fairfax Co, etc. schools. I can't fathom why you are trolling an Arlington post. Are you an Arlington Co. teacher?

You must be very cool if you not only manage to live in Arlington, but found a way to avoid the "shitty section" with the $1.4-1.8 million homes. You either have a wicked sense of humor or are a complete and utter head case. I'm putting my money on the latter.

You are boring and have yet to answer the question.

NP here. I just checked Redfin and I only see 1 house listed for $849,000:

http://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/1611-N-Highland-St-22201/home/11248020

Can you tell me where the listings are for the $1.4-1.8 million houses in the "shitty" section. This just makes me laugh because I can't think as to where these would be - yes, there are parts of Lyon Village that are nicer than others, but nothing I would call "shitty". Location, location, location is pretty much all of Lyon Village.

I believe this is considered the shitty section of LV:

Judging from the posts, it's all about "location, location, location" in Lyon Village, and not about having nice neighbors.

I believe that most locals know that Lyon Village is a very neighborly and family-friendly place, and the playground there is always filled with families and kids. Lyon Village is also in a great location very close to DC and has always been viewed as one of the better/more attractive neighborhoods in N Arlington. I don't think anyone is necessarily rejecting those views, but Lyon Village isn't for everyone. Some people do prefer the relative solitude of a house near Burke Lake, or in McLean, Vienna, etc... Others want larger yards, more house for the money, etc.
