Federal Furlough FAQs

Check out this website for a lot of information about gvt shutdown. Like it says, we got paid retroactively the last time (which was 27 days)...but according to this, there's no guarantee that would happen this time. One thing I did last time was contact my mortgage, credit card, and other companies and told them that I was furloughed. Every one of them let me hold payment until we got our paychecks again - and they did it without charging me fees! I was amazed and so glad I had asked. So if we're in the same boat again, it's definitely worth asking.

What's the word about a possible shutdown in 2 weeks? |
I don't think anyone can really say. I'm concerned that the low-hanging fruit was eliminated when they passed the 2-week CR. All that's left now are the most contentious issues like Obama's health care bill and funding for Planned Parenthood. I have a friend on the Hill who's said she thinks at least a short-term shutdown is likely. I'd keep an eye on the public opinion polls, which are likely to have a significant impact on the outcome. |
Yes, this is highly relevant to my interests. I mean, plundering Somalia is not all that lucrative, being able to effect terror in what was formerly known as upper Northwest and Bethesda will add significantly to my 2nd quarter earnings report. That, and global warming is taking its sweet time, preventing me from sailing the world-wide ocean and terrorizing other ocean-borne communities. Signed, Lord Humungous Toecutter |
Uh, thanks I think. Are you doing drugs? |
