I look at fashion blogs to tell what is "in" and of the looks I like, I'll search out those brands and styles on thredup. I generally pay 75% off retail for natural fabrics and am not contributing to the insane plastic problem we have today.

I agree with that PP -- people did not look better in the 80s. I think you are looking back with rose colored glasses.

Everyone thinks of neon and mesh and lace but I remember a lot of this, especially late 80s
Lots of rugby shirts and tightly styled hair. Mostly on the sporty.

Peak 80s for me will always be Benetton, coordinated Esprit outfits, Forenza sweaters from The Limited, big hair, Kenya bags, and dangly earrings. I'd like to think we were more put together back then.

I am wanting to go this route. I am in the process of purging my closet of stuff I will never wear. I would love to invest in some worthwhile pieces. Any recs on places to look for those quality pieces.

Really takes a serious hunt but Me+Em, the Fold, Lafayette 148 for blazers, etc, and then to a good tailor. Sometimes Hobbs and Reiss. British brands are generally better in my experience.

And look on Poshmark. I use it to get stuff for pennies on the dollar that i then have tailored

Yasss thank you. I remember this too. The sloane ranger was way out of my budget but we were all aspirational and creative to get the look we wanted (like pretty in pink). Punks were not buying their looks; it was really safety pins, etc. A lot of the trends you couldn't just buy- you had to put it together.
