Do you think GPAs have gone down with new grading policies?

I’m shocked by the little instruction that is coming from the teachers at our MS. The kids are just handed a boring 4 page ‘web quest’ for science or told to do a Gizmo on their own with no introduction to the topic or reflection. The civics teacher shows World A to Z for 15 minutes every class period. The English teachers require writing a paragraph here and there but require very little reading, no lists of vocabulary, no grammar, etc. It seems that only the math teachers are instructing. This is supposed to be a top MS.

As the administration how much time teachers receive for planning engaging lessons or evaluating student work.

There’s your answer.

Yes, GPAs are down and it’s ultimately hurting college applications

In our school, the retakes seem to be harder than the first test. So grades very rarely go up.

Retakes need to go

Yup and teaching needs to come back.

Is that true though? This is my question. If they go down across the board, I wouldn’t think it would impact college admissions.

They are compared to all the other schools.

+1 same at our MS. My DD is in all honors. In her history class, all they do is slides or wayground. She can’t even tell me what topic because she is so disengaged. The teacher sits at their desk most of the period while they do slides.

Ridiculous! Teachers have had an insane amount of time off this year to plan better lessons.

Nope! Stop lobbying for more time off. Start working.

Not a teacher, but even I know how much time is wasted on needless training, data collection, hallway duties, and meeting.

I think what the previous poster was getting at is that teachers need time to plan/grade and admin should stop filling their time with other things

Yes, they've absolutely gone down. They are now a much better representation of what kids actually know.

My super hard working kids who just never were able to master concepts before were still able to brute force their way to an A, even if they never understood all the concepts. Now they have to actually demonstrate knowledge because formative really only shifts your grade up or down half a letter. Many of the kids who would have had As under the old system have B+s now, because they get Bs on all assessments but do all their work.

yup....teachers are angry rightfully so and the kids are losing out on proper education. We should all have our eyes and anger on Gatehouse.
