What’s your non-obvious travel tip that makes every trip better?

And small coins/bills! We went to Ecuador and I really needed to pee, and I needed a DIME. When was the last time anyone had a dime in their wallet? I was scrounging around in all our collective pockets and bags, finally found a quarter, and was like "I'll treat the next one and a half people to a pee as well."

Layers.

Clothing that you can wear more than once.

Shower before bed.

If in hotel, try to book one with breakfast.

Excruciatingly plan on what you’ll do.

Once on vacation, prioritize the important activities and do the others if you have time.

Don’t rush, it’s ok if you don’t do it all.

If you’re on vacation for a while, the accommodation in the middle of the trip should have laundry machine and dryer.

Make sure accommodations are nice, clean and safe. Don’t go overboard as you’ll be out all day.

Sometimes, especially in Europe, the grocery stores have great prepared meals. Eat those.

See, I just check a bag and then don’t have to worry about layers or wearing clothes more than once or doing laundry on my vacation! It’s like an extra $60 and 30 minutes that makes it much less stressful to pack and travel. I guess that is my travel tip - check the bag and overpack!

I see the "traveler" has enters the chat again

DP I don't think "basic" is an unfair description of Costa Rica food. Not a criticism, a description.

It's certainly at the opposite end of Oaxacan or Sri Lankan cuisine, for instance.

No matter where I’m going I always pack a swimsuit, flip flops and a sarong. So many times I’ve been surprised by a nice hotel pool I wanted to try.

I also travel with a digital alarm clock because most hotels no longer have them. But that may be a me thing--I like to see what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night.

What are trifold glass cases?

You can never go wrong with a walking food tour, or any walking tour in general

I mean, I definitely can't agree with this. There are several ways walking tours can go wrong.

Examples are forthcoming; anyone who has been to Morocco is furiously typing right now.

I always eat some local yogurt on my first day in any new location

+1 and always get my house cleaned right before I go so I come back to a sparkling home

+1 to both of these. Makes a huge difference.

I travel with a laundry bag, so we can put dirty clothes somewhere.

I also save spots on my google map as 'want to visit' so we can check them out once we get there and I start planning as early as possible to find the most optimal airbnb (good location, nice decor, safe, and yes, washer and dryer). i try to plan just one outing per day so as not to overdo it. and I use ai for tips and recommendations

I used to fly overseas for work for 25 years, so my idea of a vacation is a roadtrip in the US, staying in hotels. Since I am always the first up, I bring my little coffee percolator. I really don't want to get dressed to get coffee, and I really don't want breakfast, so this gives me a slow, relaxing start to the day.

I do this and include paper towels in each plastic bag just in case. They are a life saver when something splatters.
