Sports tryouts—is this standard?

All we know is what the school posted on the athetics website, which is a time and location for Monday only, along with a message to "be prepared!". Be prepared how? He doesn't even know what to bring. Just show up with soccer cleats? It seems unfair to be competing against kids who tried out last year and know exactly what to bring and expect.

They didn't have even one soccer green day all year unlike friends at other schools, so its not like he could meet the coach or ask anyone. I'm a little baffled b/c he did a fall sport that was SO organized.

Did your kid email the coach? Stop by their office or classroom?

NP here. None of our coaches works at our school. In fact, none is a teacher or FCPS employee at all.

Same here. None of the baseball coaches work at our high school aside from coaching.

This is my question. Sorry if its dumb. There are over 100 boys at soccer tryouts. Maybe more like 125. Do they cut kids every night? When do the tryouts end, Friday? Saturday? The school only posted the schedule for the first day. We have just been assuming the next day is the same time and place all week.

How do the coaches even know who is who? They aren't wearing numbers or name tags. How do the kids know if they made the team?

It’s not true. Maybe it’s something lacrosse people want to tell themselves so they feel like their kid is doing a really competitive sport too. But it’s not reality.

I know at Woodson they're equally competitive-- but everything is, really. I've got a runner, so not personal for me...

I find it hard to believe that 100+ boys try out for lacrosse

At my school every kid has to be given 3 days of tryouts before any decisions are officially made, but kids are cut on paper day 1, just not announced until day 3.

My kid plays soccer (which has 2x as many girls trying out as there are spots), but says lacrosse is even more competitive.

For boys, soccer has 7x as many kids trying out as sports. 2x as much sounds great to me!
